PaRappa Rhyme Contest Winner Announced Today |
April 8, 2002 |
A
big congratulations goes out to Siva Bhavani, our
fourth and final Finalist. His rhyme was great. But of all the excellent rhymes we got,
nobody could touch the amazing Kapt. Buzz. El
Capitano threw down rhymes and beats so fat that we had to give him a PlayStation 2. Don't
believe us? Check it out here. Visit the PaRappa the
Rapper 2 Rhyme Contest page to see the champ, the Finalists, and a couple of honorable
mentions. Click! |

Giants: Citizen Kabuto Review (PS2) |
April 4, 2002 |
Interplay ports
their PC hit to the PS2, and the results are a bit mixed. On the one hand, Giants: Citizen Kabuto retains all of the
great story elements and humor that made the original version such a hit. On the other
hand, those graphics are starting to show their age. Still, this is a must-play for them
there thinkin' gamers. Click here. |
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Review (PS2) |
A cult hit on the PC, Majesco has ported Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
to the PS2. Again, those graphics look dated, but the gameply remains solid. Fans of the
Trek should definitely check this one out. The storyline is definitely worthy of the
series. Click here. |
CT Special Forces Preview (GBA) |
LSP Games
brings out their first in-house developed title, and CT Special Forces looks
pretty decent. Combining shoot-em-up platform action with shoot-em-up helicopter action,
plus a 4 player link mode, this could be just the thing to fill the Metal Slug void in
your life. Click here
for more. |
Capcom Announces Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny |
This
should leave Tom Hanks quakin' in his boots: Capcom will release a sequel to Onimusha
called Onimusha2: Samurai's Destiny. The
game is out in Japan and racking up the big sales. Here's the part you may have missed
about Onimusha, and the part that will spook Mr. Hanks, who has made numerous comments
about virtual actors. The main character, Jubei Yagyu, is modeled on the deceased Japanese
actor, Yusaku Matsuda. Creepy, huh? Click here for more details. |
Ubi Soft and Fox Interactive Put AvP on the GBA |
One of the
scariest and best FPS series of all time has got to be Aliens vs. Predator. Ubi Soft and Fox Interactive will release a
Game Boy Advance version of the game, which means you'll now be able to spook the hell
out of yourself in public places -- even on mass transit. Yippee! Click here for more. |

Maximo Review (PS2) |
April 3, 2002 |
Capcom's American
development house has done much more than a revamp or even a revival of Ghosts and
Goblins. Maximo: Ghosts to Glory is an
incredibly solid game. Wax zombies, snow monsters, zombies, hammer pigs, and more zombies.
And check out the fly lingerie. Tres chic. Click
here. |
Nightcaster Review (Xbox) |
Microsoft's stab
at a genre-bending fantasy action title with heavy RPG influences is a mixed bag. On the
one hand, Nightcaster packs some
decent gameplay. On the other hand, your character keeps yelling and there's that
incredibly bad faux-Irish poetry to contend with. If you're WAY into fantasy, click here. |
Legends of Wrestling Review (PS2) |
Check it out -- Hulk Hogan and
the Iron Shiek squaring off in the ring one more time. Legends
of Wrestling either lets you relive the glory Sundays of your childhood or offers you
a glimpse into the world of wrestling before it was on four nights a week. Hulkamaniacs click here. |
Genma Onimusha Review (Xbox) |
Zombie samurai and
super- powered blade weapons all mixed together in an Edo Japan gone to the undead? Sounds
like Genma Onimusha to us. Hack, slash,
and spin yourself in circles as you make your way through a quest to save all of Japan.
Dramatic. Click here. |

State of Emergency Review (PS2) |
April 2, 2002 |
Stick it to da man
in Rockstar's latest offering, State of Emergency.
Make your way through hordes of innocent people as you blow up, mow down, and generally
try to break sh*t. Sometimes working for the good guys is a dirty job. Not for the weak of
heart or mind, this is another Rockstar classic for your PS2. Click here. |
Third PaRappa Contest Finalist Announced |
Did you forget about the PaRappa the
Rapper 2 Rhyme Contest? Of course not. But you've been slacking off, and now there's
only a week left for you to enter our little contest. What will you do? First, check out
these three rhymes on the contest page (we
announced a new Finalist today -- congrats to Nicholas Papke). Second, bust out that
microphone. We'll be taking entries until Friday, April 5. Click to win. |
EOE: Eve of Extinction Review (PS2) |
Eidos brings us a
story-based hack and slash game called EOE: Eve of
Extinction. It's the future and through some bizarre bit of luck your girlfriend's
mind is transferred into a really tough weapon. Oh, and you've got to take out the evil
corporation and save the world, too. Click here. |
WWF Raw is War Review (Xbox) |
Feel the rawness!
Actually, the only things that are really raw after playing WWF Raw is War are the chapped hides of so
many wrestling gamers out there. After loads of promises and tantilizing pre-release
information, the game just doesn't deliver on its promises. Click here. |
NFL Quarterback Club 2002 Review (GC) |
It's not the greatest
football game out there, but NFL
Quarterback Club 2002 for the Gamecube packs some fun play, especially in the
multiplayer. Go up against three of your best buddies in QB Challenge mode, or just play a
little "float and hope" style. Click here. |

First Two Finalists Announced |
March 26, 2002 |
Our PaRappa the Rapper 2 Rhyme Contest
has been going really well. We'd like to congratulate the Birgin and Tru Playa on their
entries, and we've awarded them the first two finalist slots. Remember, there is room for
four finalists and a champion in this competition, so the battle is not over yet. Listen to these two rhymes on the contest page and
if you think you can do better, bust out that microphone. Only a week left to enter, so
quit putting it off! Click to win. |
Drakan Review (PS2) |
Sony brings us another
really cool title (they're on a roll lately) called Drakan: The Ancient Gate, which is not a port
of Drakan on PC. Offering a pleasant mix of action and RPG gaming, along with the chance
to fly around and roast stuff on the back of your personal dragon, this is a title no
fantasy fanatic can miss. Click here. |
Commanche 4 Review (PC) |
NovaLogic, well
known for their excellent flight simulators, brings us Commanche 4. This title is not a
simulation as much as it is a "more than arcade" shooter in which you get to
blow things up left and right. Lots of action, pretty graphics, and big explosions make
this game just about perfect. Check it
out. |

Command and Conquer: Renegade Review (PC) |
March 20, 2002 |
Providing a unique
experience that goes beyond the traditional FPS, Command and Conquer: Renegade
is a game all you action fans do not want to miss. A great storyline, excellent gameplay,
and amazing multiplayer have got us all hot and bothered about this one. Click here for the whole review. |
Jak and Daxter Review (PS2) |
Naughty Dog shows
us how they got their reputation with Jak and
Daxter. The first PS2 title to eliminate load times between levels, this game creates
a seamless world for you to interact with. Great visuals and fun gameplay make it an
absolute must-play title for folks the least bit interested in 3D platformers. Click here for the review. |
TimeSplitters 2 Preview (PS2) |
Free Radical Designs
and Eidos will bring us the highly anticipated sequel to last fall's best PS2 FPS title. TimeSplitters 2 promises to make the most of the
design team's experience with other great titles like Goldeneye on N64. A good sense of
humor, involving gameplay, and all the bells and whistles we want should build this into
the FPS for PS2. Click! |
Time Is Running Out -- Enter the PaRappa Contest
Now |
Our
PaRappa the Rapper 2 Rhyme Contest has gotten
some great entries, but we want to hear a lot more. Break out those mics and drop some
rhymes on us. Four winners will walk away with a copy of PaRappa the Rapper 2, and one big
winner will get a brand new PS2 to go with their copy of the game. How can you even think
of passing this up? Click to win. |
Mall Tycoon Review (PC) |
The whole
"tycoon" world is a vicious scene. It takes some serious skills to compete, and Mall Tycoon just doesn't have them. Simple
gameplay and mediocre everything else give this title a seriously lackluster sheen. Click here for the details. |
