Redwood City, CA July 6, 2001 Konami of America announced today that the hugely
anticipated PlayStation 2 action/adventure game, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, will
be in stores this November. Not only will the game make it onto store shelves in plenty of
time for the holiday season, but, for the first time, it will also debut in the United
States first, followed by the release of the game in Japan in December and Europe and
other countries shortly thereafter. This absolutely "Must Have" PlayStation 2
game will be available in November for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
Metal Gear Solid 2's Director, Hideo Kojima, is hard at work
with his team at Konami Computer Entertainment Japan's studios in Tokyo. Mr. Kojima and
the Metal Gear team have "submerged" since the Electronic Entertainment Expo
(E3) held in Los Angeles back in May. The team has opted to go underground, choosing to
work in a total media and communications blackout in order to concentrate on finishing
what will undoubtedly go on to become one of the most significant PlayStation 2 games ever
released. Kojima has vowed not to reemerge until the game is completed and released this
November.
Already, Metal Gear Solid 2 has captivated the minds of gamers around the globe.
Although the game has not yet been released, it has already won several awards and is
always included on lists of most anticipated games. Metal Gear Solid 2 recently
received two Best of E3 Games Critics Awards, one for "Best Console Game of the
Show" and the other for "Best Action/Adventure Game of the Show." The game
has also won similar praise from such diverse outlets as IGN.com, Electronic Gaming
Monthly, Amazon.com and Spin Magazine.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is the follow-up to
1998s critically acclaimed bestseller, taking action gaming to a new level of
interactive excitement. As the games hero, Solid Snake, gamers will use an arsenal
of high tech weapons, gadgets and supplies. Players must utilize a variety of stealthy
maneuvers to defeat an army of terrorists bent on capturing a high-tech weapon of massive
destructive power, Metal Gear Ray. MGS2 combines unique gameplay with stylish
cinematic presentation, a fair dose of political intrigue and the most stunning graphics
ever seen on a video game system; the result is the closest thing to a real spy movie
available on a video game console.
