Sega Needs Beta Testers
for Online Games
August 8, 2000
We don’t usually do small news blurbs like this here at GF!, mainly because we like to cover things fairly in-depth and thoughtfully. But the mindlessly cool announcement Sega just made today really warrants a quick note. Tomorrow, that’s August 9, 2000, you will be able to visit www.sega.com and sign up to be a beta tester for the brand new SegaNet service. Only a hundred lucky gamers will be randomly chosen, so get on it.
You might be wondering, How do we beta test an online service? Well, what you’ll really be doing, if you’re one of the testers, is going online between August 21 and 29 to play, in the most hardcore fashion possible, the slew of cool new online playable games Sega has been developing. While Sega didn’t specify, those could include Quake III, NFL 2K1, NBA 2K1, Phantasy Star Online, or any of the other games we mention in our SegaNet expose. In addition, testers will be awarded sweet prizes throughout the test period.
The rules on this one are pretty tight. You must be at least 18. You must be willing to sign a nondisclosure agreement and abide by it. You may not be a member of the media or a gaming industry professional, so this could be the chance to get ahead of your favorite gaming website.
At this point in time you should have already clicked over to www.sega.com. It’s okay, we’ll be here when you’re done.
