Sega Announces New Company, Sega.com
Sega, who has really made a comeback with the Dreamcast this past year, has started a new company, Sega.com. Set to launch in August 2000, along with a spate of new DC games focused at online play, the service is offering a $200 check and free DC keyboard to people who sign up for two years. The system is supposed to be customized for gaming, with better hardware and connections available. In addition, Sega.com is implementing new technologies for speeding narrow band connections and optimizing DC to DC play. The flagship title for the new endeavor is Quake III Arena, being developed by id Software for the console. Programmers are working feverishly to include DC to PC capability, finally bridging the gap between PC and console gaming.
Lest you think that’s all Sega has to offer, keep in mind that Sonic Square, Shenmue, Seaman (the US version developed in conjunction with JellySoft, makers of You Don’t Know Jack), Space Channel 5, and a slew of other insane titles will be on display at E3. After Sega’s warm reception at the recent Tokyo Game Show, I’m sure we can expect a lot of good things in Sega’s corner of E3.
Indrema, the Startup Console That Runs Linux
Have you heard about this new console, Indrema? We hadn’t heard of it either, until we got a tantalizing email last week. Apparently, Indrema is a new company that plans to bring a next-generation “entertainment” console to the market. Indrema will play video games, surf the Web, play MP3s, and it will do all of this running Linux. Does that get your ears pricked up? We’re curious. We’ll check this out and bring back an in-depth report next week.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 Screens
Crave Entertainment is hitting E3 big this year. Most of it is hush-hush, but we can let you in on some details, and some screenshots of Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2. Due this fall packed with 31 new cars and added modes, TXR2 links over 100 miles of “authentic Tokyo highway.” Click here for the screenshots and press release.
Square Electronic Arts Brings Out the Big Gunblades
Square’s newest titles include some big boys – Parasite Eve 2, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy IX, Driving Emotion Type-S, Legend of Mana, and The Bouncer. All of these will be shown off at E3, and we’ll bring you more details as soon as we can. We’re going to make sure Brandon, our resident Square super fan, gets to spend plenty of time playing these. In the mean time, you can check out the release here.
InterAct Insures DVD Comfort
InterAct comes through for us again. Just when we were worried about whether or not the PlayStation 2 would seamlessly integrate into our A/V setup, they gear up to release a DVD remote control. Rest assured, you will be able to watch your movies from the comfort of your couch, rising only to vacuate and grab more munchies, and without the hassle of a controller cord. Isn’t life good? You can check out the press release here.
Crave’s Y2K Dreamcast Blitz
Crave is set up for an all-out Dreamcast attack. And it looks to be a hot and heavy battle. We don’t know how many of these are going to be at E3, if any of them, but we’re sure chomping at the bit to get our thumbs on some of Crave’s new DC lineup. AeroWings 2, Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm, Mag Force Racer, THPS, Soldier of Fortune, StarLancer, and a bunch of others are on the list. They’re all blurbed in this press release, which you can read by clicking here.
N-Space Shows Off Duke Nukem & DangerGirl
N-Space is unloading a bunch of PlayStation 2 games at E3 this year. But they won’t be showing those off at E3. They’ve sent us a press release summary that includes details on Duke Nukem: Planet of the Babes and DangerGirl, among others. You can see what they have to say here.
