game: Perimeter: Emperor's Testament
review | 10/02/06 | Sean Hilliard
In a world where your only hope is a bizarre dude named \"Emperor\" who constantly prattles on about the \"sponge,\" Sean\'s review is your roadmap. And if that sentence makes sense to you, then Perimeter: Emperor\'s Testament is a game you should check out. Plus, if finding out how Snakes on a Plane, GF!\'s Chris Martin, Stephen Colbert and vodka-guzzling bears from Russia would make one heck of a game together interests you then click the link above. game: Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence
review | 04/14/06 | Jeremy Kauffman
Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence delivers a solid face lift to the MGS series in the form of a prequel, but doesn\'t depart radically from the Metal Gear formula. And in some ways it\'s inferior to its predecessors. Packed with extras, new mini-games, and ports of some of the oldest Metal Gear titles, this is a collector\'s dream come true. And for the rest of us? Subsistence manages to retain the tension of its stealth-action upbringing and not lose its sense of humor; there\'s no stress reliever like chasing a monkey. Consult Jeremy\'s review for a more in-depth look.
game: Splinter Cell
preview | 05/29/02 | Jeremy Kauffman
Ubi Soft has a Snake-killer on their hands. Picture this: Millions and millions of gamers arguing for years and years about whether MGS or Splinter Cell is the superior third person stealth action title. That\'s what the future looks like. We\'re all fans of MGS, but this Splinter Cell could make us devotees. Get the whole story here.
| 01/01/00 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
I\'ve wanted to write an editorial about female gamers for a long time now; I just didn\'t know what I wanted to say. I toyed with the idea of slamming the sexist way women are portrayed in games, mainly because I felt like complaining about how sick I am of seeing Lara Croft\'s square butt everywhere. But I realized that both sexes are hyper-idealized in video games. Metal Gear Solid wouldn\'t have had the same effect if Solid Snake was a screechy-voiced, pimply-faced, fat guy (well maybe that would be kind of fun). We live in an age of equal opportunity sexism. Women have anorexic Vogue models to look up to and men have their muscle-bound fantasies fueled by Men\'s Health and GQ. I decided that it\'s not the games or the gamers that are the problem, but the damned video game advertisers along with a strong dose of our cultural stereotypes.
