Unversal Pictures and 20th Century Fox will produce the Halo movie and have set its release for Summer 2007. After some heavy-handed tactics on the part of software publisher Microsoft, including sending couriers dressed as Master Chief to oversee and regulate script readings and requiring serious concessions in terms of profits and creative control, several other production houses had turned down the offer.
Bungie reps have been tapped to serve as consultants on the film, but Peter Moore, VP of Marketing and Publishing for Microsoft, said to Variety
, "Ultimately, Universal is the expert responsible for making a powerfully commercial movie palatable to our demographic."
At least this will be one movie with a companion videogame worth playing.
In other Halo news, the Halo Triple Pack has been announced, which combines Halo, Halo 2, and the Multiplayer Map Pack in a single box of goodness. Look for it to release this Fall.
