game: E3 2005: Kameo: Elements of Power
preview | 05/27/05 | Eric Bodrero
One of the Xbox 360 titles that Microsoft was demonstrating at this year's E3 was Kameo: Elements of Power. Originally announced for the GameCube, then the Xbox, and finally settling on the Xbox 360 as an exclusive, this massive adventure title will help launch the new system. With huge battles involving thousands of enemy A.I. and a style that looks to target the Zelda-fan demographic, Kameo is one to watch. Check out our E3 2005 preview.
game: E3 2005: An In Depth Look at Age of Empires III
preview | 05/26/05 | Chris Martin
One of the best real-time strategy series has had a face-lift. Not only that, it's had a gameplay-lift as well. Read our E3 coverage of Ensemble Studios' brilliant Age of Empires III to see why lightning will strike thrice.
game: E3 2005: Hands-on With Gears of War
preview | 05/24/05 | Aaron Stanton
One of the more polished games shown for the Xbox 360 at E3 2005, Gears of War is an over-the-shoulder shooter with a style reminiscent of Brute Force, only fun to play. While the world was wondering what the next generation titles would look like, screens from Gears of War have been on the Internet since E3 2004, when they were shown off under a different name for an Unreal 3 engine demonstration. Now we get to see more details about how the game plays as Aaron checks out the title behind closed doors.
game: Dungeon Siege II
preview | 05/22/05 | Eric Bodrero
There haven't been many really great hack-and-slash titles since Diablo II left the stage a few years back. While the classic franchise exited in fairly good form, it left behind a void that's been taken on by any number of competent top-down dungeon crawlers. While a number of these attempts were solid, we're still waiting for the title that will help us forget just how good Diablo was. Dungeon Siege II attempts to improve everything it's carried over from the first game, and wipe Diablo from your memory. Eric sits down to lay out some of the details about how they intend to do that.
game: Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
preview | 05/21/05 | Blaine Krumpe
For all of its innovative design and touch screen, so far the DS has not really delivered the kind of different experiences that it has the potential for. Blaine identifies one great use of the touch screen that makes possible a thoroughly enjoying pocket form of Age of Empires: Age of Kings. AoK is a classic turn-based strategy game, and so far the direction this handheld version is taking might make it one of the first pocket strategy games to be as enjoyable as the PC version.

In a bold move, Microsoft teamed up with MTV to unveil their new console Xbox 360. Inside are Chris's impressions on the games, the system, and life in general.

The problem with having part of our editorial staff on the east coast and part on the west coast is that one half gets a 3 hour head start on TV specials. Shawn, based out of New York, picked up the MTV special a bit before those of us over here on the west coast did, and managed to get his thoughts up before we'd even had a chance to glimpse the brief flicker on the TV that we think must have been the MTV special it was too short and never focused on the 360 long enough for us to tell. Shawn jotted down his notes in the earlier post; now here are Aaron's thoughts on what Microsoft showed the world of their next generation game console.

"Everybody here is in, obviously." Obviously. We haven't seen this kind of "drank the punch" vigor since Election 2004. In a move sure to annoy others much more than it annoys us (mainly because we don't get invited to the really good events anyway), Microsoft revealed the Xbox on MTV tonight. Shawn watched it, and while he did, he scribbled these notes.

game: Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
review | 05/07/05 | Tristan Mayshark
Released just eight months after Doom 3, this expansion is not completely without flaws, but is pretty to look at, satisfying to play, and adds some much needed variety to Doom 3. It also addresses your character's original inability to wield a flashlight and a weapon at the same time. You don't get to be any more ambidextrous than last time around, but at one point you'll find yourself with a flashlight stuck to your forehead. It's not quite as ideal a solution as using duck tape to strap the light to your gun, but it's a step in the right direction. Check out the full review for more details.

We\'re two weeks from E3 2005. That sounds like a lot of fun, but it\'s really just a lot of work for us in the industry, and if there\'s one thing we at GF! generally dislike, it\'s work. It also means that we only have 12 days until Micro
soft unveils their next-generation game console, so we figure there\'s still time for
Meet Xbox 2 (Part 3) before we move on to poking fun at some other companies and games in the industry. For a little insight into what goes on behind the comics, including a little bit about the daily twoplayer comics we\'ll be doing over E3, be sure to read about it
here (after checking out this weeks cartoon, of course). Remember, you can always find the latest twoplayer comics at

game: Phantom Dust
review | 04/30/05 | Chris Martin
If you're a fan of the unusual, Phantom Dust offers one of the most unique experiences on the Xbox. Developed to appeal to the Japanese market, this anime-influenced title is stylish, odd, and addicting. As a game unique in the American market, this budget title will devour hours of time for the people willing to give it a shot despite a style that is decidedly outside the mainstream. Read our full review for details.
game: Lumines
review | 04/14/05 | Shawn Rider
Lumines is the hipster puzzle game for the PSP that's got everyone tripping out on rave-tastic visuals and bumping techno beats. But Shawn is here to say that for all those non-raver, techno-hating gamers out there, Lumines is still a dang fun puzzle game. And you can still trip out on the graphics without dressing like a candy bar.
