Sheep Raider Review (PSX) |
December 21, 2001 |
What could be
more fun than picking off a few innocent sheep? Not much. Looney Tunes Sheep Raider allows
you to put yourself right in the mutton rustlin' action. Of course, you'll want to watch
out for that dog, who is smarter and quicker than he looks. Click. |
Monsters, Inc. Review (GBA & GBC) |
The
movie tie-in is an art on the Game Boy system, and Monsters, Inc. gets its due on
both the GBA and the GBC. The games are nearly identical, both offering darn fun
sidescrolling action. Click here. |

Survivor: Australian Outback Review (PC) |
December 18, 2001 |
It's been a long time since we've seen a game this schlocky. So we
thought Survivor: Australian Outback
deserved the top spot today. Welcome our man, Matt, back stateside. We needed him to take
the brunt of games like this. Plus, he kind of looks like Colby. Click. |
WWF Road to Wrestlemania Review (GBA) |
THQ brings us one of
the least hyped WWF titles in a long time. WWF
Road to Wrestlemania is no match for Fire Pro Wrestling when it comes to GBA wrasslin'
games. But the entrances are pretty. Click
here. |
World War III Review (PC) |
Engage in realistic
strategy gameplay focusing on a war in the middle east scheduled for the "near
future". Hmmm. World War III sounds a bit
ominous, but for fans of games like Earth 2150, it could be just the thing to cure those
winter blues. This is definitely for the core RTS fans. Click here. |
Video Games Go Prime Time |
We
got a letter from the folks at Cyplex.
They're making a prime time videogame competition to show on "national TV
networks". We like that it features unified PC and console competition, but we're
skeptical about the parts that kind of sound like the WWF. Click here for more (like how you could
become the next videogame heavyweight champion of the world). |

Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX Review (PC) |
December 11, 2001 |
The second biggest
"Pro" title in Activision's O2 lineup is Mat
Hoffman's Pro BMX. It's not as pretty, or as fun, as THPS, but it's got some things
going for it. Mainly, that's the THPS-style control scheme. You'll have to check the
review to hear about the rest. Click. |
Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX Review (GBA) |
The Game Boy Advance
incarnation of Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX is
pretty enough, but that's about as far as it goes. After the glory of THPS2 for GBA, we
expected a lot more from this one, which is a lot like a Game Boy Color game with better
graphics. Get the full story here. |
Doom Review (GBA) |
The GBA has had a
stellar year. We've been reminded often why we love our handhelds. Doom is another feather in the cap of the GBA.
Activision brings us a PC-perfect port of this classic FPS, complete with multiplayer
cooperative and deathmatch modes. What more could you want? Click here. |

Mad Dash Review (Xbox) |
December 9, 2001 |
Eidos brings us an
excellent kart racer without the karts. Mad
Dash is just like it sounds -- an insane race through gigantic courses with the
loopiest bunch of characters we've seen in a long time. It's complex, fast, and a helluva
good time. Play it with friends. Click here. |
Dark Summit Review (Xbox) |
THQ offers up a
little competition for SSX with Dark
Summit, their story oriented fantasy snowboarding game. You must find out why the Ski
Patrol on Mt. Garrick is running down snowboarders, which only leads to more mystery. It's
a good time for all you punks. Click. |

Conquest: Frontier Wars Review (PC) |
December 6, 2001 |
Ubi Soft
brings us a real-time strategy game that allows you to move in all three dimensions. Conquest: Frontier Wars will have you
fighting in huge space battles and commanding fleets of cool ships. Space combat and RTS
fans should check this one out. Click. |
State of Emergency Preview (PS2) |
We
wondered what Rockstar would do if it turned out that irony really was dead after 9/11.
After all, they're located right in NYC. Well, a few small things were changed in their
lineup, but Rockstar has stuck to their guns (literally). The success of Grand Theft Auto 3 has proven that irony is not
dead, and we're really hungry for transgressive games. So, being the socially conscious
crew they are, Rockstar kicked us down some brand new screens for State of Emergency because they knew you were
dying to see. If GTA3 shocked you, get a load of this. Click here. |
Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival Review
(GBA) |
Capcom doesn't want you
to be Street Fighter-less on any system. Super
Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival is a very nice Game Boy Advance title that puts
classic 2D action in the palm of your hand. Lots of modes and pretty graphics make this
one to check out. Click here. |
Max Payne Preview (PS2 and Xbox) |
Max Payne is a great game (check the PC review if you don't believe me).
We've been waiting for it to come to both PS2 and Xbox, and to tide us over Rockstar gave
us some (lots of) new screens. Get your Max
Payne fill right here. |
Spyhunter Review (PS2) |
Midway
offers up a healthy dose of nostalgia and some great improvements with Spyhunter. Of course you've played this
game before, but possibly not quite like this. It's pretty simple, and a hell of a lot of
fun. Check it out. |
Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace Review (GBA) |
Activision
gets this baby out well before the movie is due in Spring 2002. Spider-Man: Mysterio's
Menace offers up some great web-slinging action and makes the GBA look very good. If
only it were a bit longer... Click for the review. |

Dark Age of Camelot Review (PC) |
December 2, 2001 |
Mythic Entertainment brings
us a MMORPG to renew our faith in MMORPGs. Dark Age
of Camelot is a lot of fun, and just as addictive as EQ. Competing realms, lots of
character classes, and streamlined gameplay equal more fun and less hassle. Click here. |
Rune Sword II Review (PC) |
Why settle for
playing the game when you can just make it? Rune Sword II gives RPG fans a chance to
play gamemaster once again. Offering a load of possibilities and good gameplay, you could
be working on this game for years. Check
it out here. |
Ms. Pac Man: Quest for the Golden Maze Review
(PC) |
The lady is back, and this
time she's taking on dots and ghosts in Egyptian-esque mazes. Ms. Pac Man: Quest for the Golden Maze is
pretty much what you'd expect: old-fashioned dot chompin', ghost munchin' excitement. Whee! |
Empire of the Sun Review (DVD) |
Spielberg's
classic comes to DVD newly remastered and looking and sounding pretty as hell. Empire of the Sun is based on the JG
Ballard's semi-autobiographical novel and is a breathtaking bit of film. Accompanied by a
great documentary, this is an excellent value. Click here for more. |
The Matrix Revisited Review (DVD) |
How
much Matrix advertising can you stand? If you answered, "A lot," then this might
be the DVD for you. The Matrix Revisited
is little more than an interim hype-fest to get you ready for the anime series and the two
sequels to The Matrix. For the whole rundown, click here. |

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Review (PS2) |
November 29, 2001 |
The Birdman is back,
and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is everything
we'd hoped for. New tricks (so you can actually skate like Mr. Mullen there) and online
multiplayer are the big highlights this time around, but there are plenty of other things
to get excited about, too. Click here. |
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x Review (Xbox) |
The
debate rages on, but true fans of the THPS series know that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x has enough goodies
packed into it (like the entire original THPS game) to make it worthwhile. Sure, it's hard
waiting for THPS3 on the Xbox, but life is hard. Deal with it. Click. |
Civilization III Review (PC) |
Our man, Paul, is
not impressed with Civilization III. The new
emphasis on culture is refreshing, but the new emphasis on discovering resources is
frustrating, and that whole historical accuracy thing just has to go. Find out what's new
and what's not. Click here. |
Mad Dog McCree Review (DVD, PS2, Xbox) |
Get ready to see that
screen a lot. Mad Dog McCree is the
rootinest, tootinest, most tedious-est laserdisc port to make it to DVD. It's not bad if
you're on a console system, just repetitive. But it's full of campy goodness. Click. |

GameSpy Announces Online Multiplayer Support for
Xbox |
It's here!
Granted, the setup is a little tricky and not quite as nice as we hope Xbox online
multiplayer will become, but GameSpy at least lets us do it. You can play THPS2x, HALO, and NASCAR Heat 2002 online
via your broadband connection right now. Click
here for all the details. |
