The Simpsons are a perennial videogame topic. Many of the games created in the franchise are utterly forgettable. (Anyone up for a round of Simpsons Wrestling? Didn\'t think so...) But there have been a few well-done Simpsons games: Simpsons Hit and Run (a GTA clone) and The Simpsons Road Rage (a Crazy Taxi clone) were both enjoyable. The Simpsons Game isn\'t a direct rip-off of any particular game. It sticks to a platform/action approach and uses the whole world of videogames for its satirical fodder. The result is a Simpsons game that may be slightly less polished in terms of gameplay but is easily the game that feels most like a real Simpsons episode. Check out our review for more.

Saint\'s Row is unmistakably influenced by Grand Theft Auto, but it manages to improve on the GTA formula in certain aspects. And why not? It took Rockstar almost a decade to get gamers into airplanes for crying out loud. And this is the 21st Century! Shouldn\'t we be able to save without retreating to a hideout? Back in the early day of the PS2, Rockstar followed up their blockbuster GTA3 with State of Emergency, a game widely rumored to be based on the WTO riots in Seattle that put you in the middle of giant marauding crowds bent on destroying the man. SOE featured an innovative game engine that allowed for previously unheard of numbers of characters on-screen as well as a locational damage/weapon engine that allowed you to rip off body parts and use them to beat down new victims. When I was in high school, all the cool girls had this saying: \"That\'s so cute I just want to throw it against a wall.\" You could modify what you wanted to do to the cute thing: eat it, squish it, set it on fire. The idea was that cuteness inspires violent feelings, and it made us giggle with glee. Such is the premise of Happy Tree Friends: Cute and violent. Really violent. To put it in marketing language (from all companies, not just MS), we\'ve moved beyond the era of \"GTA Clones\" and into the era of the \"action-driving\" genre. However you want to classify it, Crackdown looks like it will bring something good to the Xbox 360. It helps that Microsoft has tapped Real Time Worlds, which is headed by David Jones, and whose key members created the original Grand Theft Auto as well as Lemmings. So something good could happen here. Read on for more info about Crackdown, which should be on the must-have list for any action-driving fan.
