Just arrived on Xbox Live today are two new demos. Eternal Sonata from Namco Bandai is likely to satisfy all those eager for a JRPG on Microsoft\'s console, and Vampire Rain, which is, something else entirely. I personally am excited for Eternal Sonata, as I haven\'t played a JRPG in some time and it looks fantastic from previews. I\'m less excited for the universally panned Vampire Rain, where you\'re an elite special forces unit sent to thin out the vampire ranks. Impressions forthcoming.
game: The Darkness
preview | 03/17/07 | Chris Martin
The Darkness is shaping up to be a must have game for not only fans of the Top Cow comic, but for fans of first person shooters. Blending supernatural elements and gunplay, The Darkness puts you in the shoes of Jackie Estacado, our resident anti-hero, as he seeks revenge on his father\'s murderer. The newest video is a montage of some new and old footage, and shows off the darkling powers and what makes them a force to be reckoned with.
game: The Secret of Monkey Island
feature | 09/08/06 | Chris Martin
Ah, remember when games were games and gamers were gamers who loved graphical adventures! Trust us, it happened sometime in the early nineties. Graphical adventures have been gaining steam lately, what with the soon-to-be-gold \"Sam & Max: Episode One\" in October. And since we love retro games so much, we put two and two together and came out with GROG! In this new weekly column, we force Chris to play through one old-school game and write about it. He\'s currently recovering now that he\'s seen the ghost pirate LeChuck in \"The Secret of Monkey Island.\"
game: Dead Rising
editorial | 08/02/06 | Chris Martin
\"In Dead Rising, coming August 8th for the Xbox 360 game console, players follow the efforts of ambitious photojournalist Frank West as he investigates the strange happenings at the Willamette Parkview Mall only to find that more than just the Chinese food in the Food Court has been rotting...\" We\'re so happy for a return of the zombie game that we tied Chris to his computer chair with bailing wire (left over from the last time a gamer defected) and forced him to write about what makes a zombie a zombie. By the end of the three-day period Chris, a little pale from lack of food, fell over trying to lunge at us with ominous moans. He bit a big chunk out of Aaron\'s arm as he tried to post this.

game: SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars
review | 07/01/06 | Blaine Krumpe
Blending RPG and RTS elements, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars puts you in command of an army tasked with defending the known world from utter evil. OK, so the innovation doesn\'t exactly carry through to the narrative plot. Regardless, if you love RPGs and you love real-time strategy, then you will likely love SpellForce 2\'s hybrid. From masses of ground forces to aerial assaulting mythological creatures, SpellForce 2 manages to add a little bit of everything without spoiling the soup. Check out Blaine\'s review here.
game: Ear Force X2
review | 06/29/06 | Shawn Rider
Turtle Beach brings their Xbox-targeted headphones to a whole new level of quality with the Ear Force X2 Wireless Xbox Headphones. The Ear Force X2 is a (mostly) wireless setup that works very nicely with your Xbox 360 console, providing high quality audio and voice chat in a audiophile quality package. And the X2 headphones deliver the goods for just under a hundred bucks, which makes them a natural choice. We can see why the MLG would license these as the \"official\" headphones of Major League Gaming.
game: Commandos Strike Force
review | 05/18/06 | Sean Hilliard
Ahhh, the Commandos series. GF! editors know a classic series when we see one and had high hopes for the new Commandos Strike Force. However, it soon became apparent that a Commandos FPS is a bad idea. How bad? Well, let\'s just say we can think of a half-dozen other WWII shooters we\'d play before Strike Force. Check Sean\'s review for the full gore.

Booth babes have been a hot topic at E3 this year. The ESA has instigated additional enforcement policies to help control the extent to which booth babes reveal their bodies, and not everyone is happy about that. When two girls in revealing clothing showed up outside the convention center with signs that read, \"Booth Babe Protest: I\'m \"E\" for Everyone,\" and, \"Bikinis > Bullets,\" we couldn\'t help but stop for an interview. When E3 security showed up to chase them off the grounds, we also couldn\'t help but throw a press credential, a camera, and a little weight into the mix in an attempt to put it to The Man. Seems to have worked.
game: Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars
preview | 03/22/06 | Sean Hilliard
Apsyr\'s Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars seeks to finally become a staple of the North American PC game library. Spellforce 2 is a hybrid real-time strategy and role-playing game that features massive battles involving both land and air-based fantasy combat. It\'s real pretty, and real chaotic, which is mostly good. Spellforce 2 is available this April for PC, and a demo is available now. Check out Sean\'s preview for the full story.
game: Playstation 3
news | 02/27/06 | Aaron Stanton
Heading into the Spring season, rumblings are growing that Sony won\'t be able to hit their announced PS3 release date of \"Spring 2006.\" Next-Gen.biz is reporting that delays in finalizing the Blu-Ray drive could force Sony to push back the PS3\'s release. GameSpot is also reporting that potential supply problems could make it difficult for Sony to mass produce the drive. Both articles quote similar sources, both claim that Sony has acknowledged the potential for delays. It\'s our suspicion that both reports are based on the same data, subject to varying types of interpretation, but either way you read it makes you wonder about the accuracy Sony\'s original release window.

Though we haven\'t seen much of the Star Trek franchise in the game industry since the release of Elite Force II a little while back, that doesn\'t mean that the series isn\'t still destined for further greatness. Bethesda Softworks, makers of Elder Scrolls and one of the most talented developers in the industry today, has purchased the right to make games based on the Star Trek franchise. They\'ve announced two games, including one title for the Xbox 360, and another for both the Nintendo DS and the PSP. Though they haven\'t announced anything, they\'ve also purchased the rights to create games for the PC based on the Star Trek IP.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced yesterday that they would enforce a $5000 fine on any company who violates a more modest \"booth babes\" policy at their Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), to be held May 10-12, 2006 in Los Angeles. E3 has long been known in part for the models companies hire to attract attendees to their booths. Some companies hire people dressed like main characters, others just hire a few pretty ladies with fancy underwear.
Coverage of this story inspired us to re-post a GamesFirst! classic. Back in 2001 we did a short documentary at E3 delving into the question of Booth Babes. We\'ve re-encoded it for iPod support (should work for all PC platforms, too), and we\'re re-releasing the video today. Check it out.

game: Ear Force AXT Headphones
review | 12/19/05 | Shawn Rider
Turtle Beach has long been one of our favorite audio component manufacturer for PCs. They have released their Ear Force line of surround sound compatible headphones, which offer great 3D audio. GF! recently took the Ear Force AXT headphones for a spin, and we found not a lot to like. Consult this review before laying down the $80 for an experience that will most likely leave you with buyer\'s remorse.
