Stuntman: Ignition Preview
game: Stuntman: Ignition
preview | 07/23/07 | Chris Martin
One of the under-the-radar games this year, THQ\'s Stuntman: Ignition, has us all excited. Whether it\'s the parody of big-budget action films, the balance of risk and reward, or the allure of string-combos, this game seems to have quite a lot to offer gamers. We took the stuntman\'s job for several hours in the Xbox Live demo of Stuntman: Ignition. We ran through burning buildings, shot down helicopters, and braved a hand-brake-less-reverse-one-eighty, and have big, big smiles to show for it. More inside!

Shrek The Third Review
game: Shrek The Third
review | 07/16/07 | Chris Martin
Following the events of the film, Shrek the Third puts you in the shoes of Shrek, Donkey, Puss-in-Boots, and others as they try to find Arthur and get him to be king. Taking cues from, and also satiring, the myths of both Arthur and the fairy tale genre, Shrek the Third places you in the middle of a fairy tale coup d\'etat (ask you parents, kids!) in the land of Far Far Away. Although it features many of the same voice actors from the film (including John Cleese), the game suffers from poor execution and vision, even for a kids game. This is one that we swear you\'ll do good to avoid, even if you\'re a fan.

That Retro Review: The Secret of Monkey Island
game: The Secret of Monkey Island
feature | 09/08/06 | Chris Martin
Ah, remember when games were games and gamers were gamers who loved graphical adventures! Trust us, it happened sometime in the early nineties. Graphical adventures have been gaining steam lately, what with the soon-to-be-gold \"Sam & Max: Episode One\" in October. And since we love retro games so much, we put two and two together and came out with GROG! In this new weekly column, we force Chris to play through one old-school game and write about it. He\'s currently recovering now that he\'s seen the ghost pirate LeChuck in \"The Secret of Monkey Island.\"

GameVideos.com has managed to find three of the short films he\'s directed. Zombies Ate My Neighbors Adaptation in TheProject.TV Short Film Contest
news | 08/05/06 | Chris Martin
Director Adam Slutsky, Co-producer Sean Jensen, and company are in the business of making us laugh, and feel a little nostalgic for 1994. Their film \"Zombies Ate My Neighbors,\" based on the Konami video game of the same name is a throwback to schlocky horror films and video game horror. The first part of three 3-minute shorts is up on TheProject.TV and we have to say we\'re impressed. The film seems to have everything, even a twenty-something guy playing \"grandma\" in a white wig? Say no more.

The Movies: Stunts and Effects Review
game: The Movies: Stunts and Effects
review | 07/07/06 | Jason Perkins
Lionhead Studios addressed the lack of special effects in last year\'s The Movies by releasing an expansion pack, The Movies: Stunts and Effects. Installing the new expansion changes very little in the simulation until you\'ve played through the 1960s, but opens up a wide range of options for the machinima community. Budding directors can now control a freely movable camera and place stuntmen into precariously dangerous situations. Stunts and Effects is aimed at gamers who are already invested in The Movies and want to make it better; for everyone else it\'s just a worthy addition that adds yet another group of needy staffers for the player to manage. Super Columbine Massacre RPG: Art or Atrocious?
game: Super Columbine Massacre RPG
editorial | 05/20/06 | Shawn Rider
Super Columbine Massacre RPG! is, needless to say, kicking up a bit of controversy. Curious to find out what Super Columbine Massacre is all about (as if we didn\'t already know), Shawn downloaded and played through the five hours or so of game. Was it crazy awesome? Or just plain crazy? Check out Shawn\'s article to find out.

Superman Returns Preview
game: Superman Returns
preview | 05/20/06 | Matt James
Superman may be one of the top superheroes in the superheroing business, but in videogames he has a spotty record at best. However, EA and their Tiburon studio is set to return the Man of Steel to glory (and, coincidentally tie-in with the latest Superman film, which, you know, out to bode well, right?). With some definitely next-gen visuals, Superman looks pretty, but can he back up his sexy little spit curl with a solid game experience? Matt James takes a look at Superman returns, and manages to avoid making a single joke about Superman 64. Amazing! Get the full preview here.

Pre-E3: Sadness Preview
game: Sadness
preview | 05/07/06 | George Holomshek
Indy Polish developer, Nibris, has given us some very nice screens of their upcoming Wii project, Sadness. Sadness is an unusual game for a few reasons: It\'s entirely in black-and-white, which gives it the feel of a creepy old-school horror movie. The psychological tensions built into the game should help to accentuate that \"Psycho\" quality, and to further intensify the gameplay, Nibris has also disregarded traditional weapons in favor of ad hoc armaments. Players will have to defend themselves with sticks, stones, torches, and shards of glass. George has a complete rundown on why Sadness is on his radar at E3 2006.

The Movies Review
game: The Movies
review | 01/18/06 | Sarah Wichlacz
Peter Molyneaux\'s latest game achievement is not plagued by overambitious design goals or over-hyped pre-release promises. The Movies is exactly what it was promised to be: A simulation of the movie industry from the dawn of Hollywood to present day. Manage your employees, send actors to rehab, build a studio and become a major mogul in the movie industry. Plus, it has a cool machinima-friendly filmmaking mode that has already led to some interesting creations. Check out Sarah\'s review here.
