game: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
review | 04/06/07 | Amanda Bateman
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In Portrait of Ruin, a picture is full of a thousand demons. A thousand demons about to be cut down by whips and giant crosses, that is. In the second Castlevania title for the Nintendo DS, take control of two characters and get ready to tangle with Dracula. While very much in line with the rest of the series, there are a few surprises herein for fans of the series. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin might be right up your alley if you\'re in the mood for a good adventure game, a few puzzles, and lots of bosses.

Nancy Drew is fast becoming known as a video game character combating stereotypes. Our girl game guru Lauri is here to tell us why Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is great for young girl gamers and also gets a parental--as well as political--seal of approval.

Far from it, but it\'s nice to know that you can make a difference if you shout loud enough. Good job, guys and gals.

Has this adventure game aged like a fine Chardonnay or soured like milk? Chris has been to the Ages of Myst and back and has freed Atrus in this review of Myst!

game: Trace Memory

Trace Memory for the Nintendo DS is a bold take on what an adventure game can be, and it provides a whole new take on the concept of \"all killer, no filler.\" Trace Memory clocks in at a very brief five or six hours, which is definitely not the norm in gaming these days, but those are some of the most enjoyable five or six hours we\'ve seen in an adventure game. Our resident academic gamer, Laurie Taylor, takes a look at this unique title.

Say farewell to one of the landmarks in video game history. Cyan Worlds, the creators of Myst, have closed their doors. The company was made famous when it used incredible pre-rendered graphics, moody audio, and brilliant puzzles to create a huge following in the game industry. The original Myst served as a crossover title that brought thousands of causal players into the more complex and beautiful world of the hardcore. Until The Sims took the crown, Myst was considered the best selling game of all time. Cyan Worlds was also one of the few companies dedicated to adventure games anymore, and we\'re sad to see them go. Best of luck, guys.
