We break down the games that will be available on launch day to help you decide which ones fit best in your DVD tray.

game: Doom 3
comic | 11/07/05 | Aaron Stanton
The Doom movie managed to hit #1 in the box office right after its
release. Since then, competition from other titles have forced it down the chart, with one magazine reporting a 120% drop less than a week after it\'s
release. Don\'t ask me how that\'s possible, except that - if the charts wrap-around to the top of the screen like many old NES games - that would put them way up there at the top. Possibly one of the greatest money makers of all time. Who knows? Take a look at this week\'s twoplayer comic (
Part I and
Part II) to see which Doom-isms made a safe transition from the game to the movie.

news | 11/06/05 | Aaron Stanton
We\'re only days away from the release of Mario Kart DS, the most recent iteration of Nintendo\'s popular franchise and the first DS title to use Wi-Fi to play on Nintendo\'s online service. This close to release, review copies and test builds have been making their way to various members of the gaming community, including 1UP.com, which now has an article on the Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter. The article shows screenshots of installing the software on a PC, and connecting to it via Mario Kart DS. Give it a week, and you\'ll probably be able to see these screens for yourself.
game: Revolution
news | 10/29/05 | Aaron Stanton
With the Xbox 360 only a few weeks away, the next generation consoles are about to begin the process of officially becoming this generation. With all the energy building up around the pending 360 release, it\'s not surprising that the Nintendo faithfull are speculating about what their system is going to play like. We\'ve all seen video, but very few have had any chance to really sit down with the Nintendo controller. Well, one creative gamer assembled a Nintendo Revolution controller out of pieces and parts of computer equipment he had around the house. Then he played Half-Life 2 with it. Then posted instructions and videos.
game: Zelda III: The Triforce Saga
news | 10/28/05 | Aaron Stanton
Zelda II was the last official Zelda title released on the NES in the United States, but there\'s speculation that maybe a third title existed, or was at least under development before the series was transferred to the SuperNES. Recently, a gamer claimed to have found a Legend of Zelda III NES cartridge at a flea market containing an unfinished build of the third Zelda installment. What unfolded was a series of events that include eBay listings, accusations of fraud, and an official denial of involvement from none other than the Canadian development company Silicon Knights. The cartridge ultimately sold for $3000 CAD (about $2500 USD). Or did it? We take a look at the time-line of events.
game: Shadow of the Colossus
news | 10/26/05 | Shawn Rider
Why are we always such suckers for this viral marketing stuff? Sony (or somebody working for Sony) has created an utterly believable Typepad blog called Giantology, which features images and videos shot by \"scientists\" and \"enthusiasts\" all over the world. What is in said images and videos? Just some fossilized and otherwise dessicated remains of things that look an awful lot like the Colossi from Sony\'s recent release, Shadow of the Colossus. There\'s some fun stuff on the site, so check it out.

Kuma War is bringing Saddam\'s trial to virtual life. Just released is the first in a series of episodes featuring the events of Saddam Hussein\'s life which are under scrutiny in his trials. The first episode corresponds to the current trial, and is called \"The Crime of Dujail: Saddam\'s Revenge.\" In 1982, Saddam\'s motorcade was attacked, and Saddam is reported to have ordered the public executions of 143 villagers and the imprisonment of 1500 more Iraqis. Kuma War\'s recreation focuses on the motorcade ambush as players try to assassinate the dictator. Majesco has announced several exciting unlockable characters for Infected, the fast-paced shooter for the PSP. Announced unlockable characters for Infected include Bloodrayne and members of Slipknot. Given Infected\'s gruesome gameplay footage that mixes horror and Christmas, and given Infected\'s rocking soundtrack with several tracks from Slipknot, Infected is shaping up to be a major November
release. We\'ll still have to see how Infected shapes up in light of
World of Warcraft\'s adventures in virtual plagues, but it looks like it will be a great game and an important game for the PSP.

game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 10/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
Rumors on the Internet have 2K Games announcing that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will miss the Xbox 360 launch day by two weeks, giving the much anticipated title a new release date of December 5th, 2005. How reliable this information is remains to be seen; while a number of high profile game sites have reported Oblivion\'s delay, IGN Insider is now reporting that Bethesda denies any such thing. Questions about Oblivion\'s role in the Xbox 360 launch have been floating about the Internet since it failed to make Microsoft\'s previous list of confirmed same-day launch titles. Speculation that it could be released during the system\'s launch window instead, within a month or so of the actual system, is still very much valid.

The Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association has released an official statement against a new California law signed into law yesterday by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who claims the law will \"require that violent video games be clearly labeled and not be sold to children under 18 years old.\" That\'s not a bad thing; in fact, games are already clearly labelled and rated for both age and content. And therein lies the problem: California\'s law does not recognize the ratings of the ESRB, and instead imposes a vague set of guidelines which retailers will be legally bound to. Needless to say, this puts retailers in a precarious position: In some way, every title must be separately re-rated in California, but the specifics of how that would work are not there. Click here to read more about the law and retailers\' statement against it.
