Rainbow Six: Lockdown Review
game: Rainbow Six: Lockdown
review | 09/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
Rainbow Six is a game franchise that we really cherish here at GamesFirst, so when Lockdown came out with horrible flaws we couldn\'t help but feel disappointed. Truth is, the game\'s entire AI system is just plain stupid. We didn\'t think you\'d believe us if we just showed you pictures and wrote about being able to withstand 7.5 minutes of weapon fire, so we\'ve included video clips of our character being all immortal and impervious to bullets. Funny thing; you actually die more if you take cover. Check it out.

Xbox 360 to Repel Hackers With Deadly Laser Beams
game: Xbox 360
news | 09/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
A member of the Xbox 360 development team has told BBC that Microsoft\'s next generation game system will be difficult to hack. We can only speculate about what that means. It also brings to mind a few other interesting attempts by companies in the past to prevent hacking, such as Nintendo\'s brilliant move to make the GameCube so unpopular that no one would care. We here at GamesFirst have figured out a fool proof hacking system, though, that works pretty much every time.

PSP Enjoys Best System Launch in UK History, DS Still Strong in Japan
game: Sony PSP
news | 09/06/05 | Aaron Stanton
Last week\'s launch of the Sony PSP enjoyed unparalleled success, selling more units in the first week than any other system in the history of the United Kingdom. Roughly 185,000 PSPs sold in the days following the system\'s release, compared to the 87,000 Nintendo DS units that moved from shelves during the launch of Nintendo\'s handheld. The Nintendo DS, sold since March, still claims a greater total combined systems sold, and it remains to be seen how Sony\'s numbers hold up against the onslaught of highly anticipated Nintendo games expected this Holiday season. Nintendogs, for example, expects an October 7th release.

Fan Mock-ups of the Revolution Controller
news | 09/04/05 | Aaron Stanton
This is a day for Revolution news. We\'ve already mentioned this site elsewhere on GamesFirst, but in light of the upcoming possible unveiling of the Nintendo Revolution controller in just a few days, we figured we\'d point out some rather light-hearted entertainment to deal with the system. Joystiq.com has an article up that recaps and links to a number of fan mock-ups of the Nintendo Revolution controller. Included in the list are supposed eyewitness reports that may or may not be true. They\'re fun to read over knowing there\'s a possibility that you\'ll know the truth by the 16th of this month, which makes the mystery a bit more bearable. It will also make the disappointment sharper if Nintendo continues keeping its mouth shut. Included in the list of suggested features for the Revolution controller are such things like hot and cold feedback regions and the ever-popular touch-pad screen. Check it out.

editorial | 09/04/05 | Aaron Stanton
Microsoft has announced that the Xbox 360 will be sold in two different packages, with the primary difference being whether or not there\'s a hard drive. Now, many in the gaming community are asking themselves if the extra hundred dollars is worth the mass media storage or not. We sit down to go over what the hard drive will give you, why you should care, and if it\'s for you. Pulling from a number of different sources, including interviews with members of the industry in the know, we do our best to make the decision easy for you. At least as best we can before the system actually launches.

Modding Community Gets Head Start on Xbox 360
news | 08/31/05 | Aaron Stanton
Probably the people most passionate about whether or not the Xbox 360 has a hard drive are system modders, who can possibly use the hard drive for everything from stealing games (bad) to running homebrew software (goodish). Now, the makers of the SmartXX mod chip for the Xbox have gotten hold of a number of Xbox 360 development kits. They\'ve opened the system and photographed the insides, which is a pretty good indication that the modding community is already at work on modding the next generation game consoles.

China Forces World of Warcraft and Lineage II to Restrict Players
news | 08/25/05 | Aaron Stanton
In what we are assuming is a move related to the recent death of a South Korean man who played Starcraft for 50 hours straight in an Internet cafe, China has stated that it will require all MMORPGs sold within its borders to adhere to strict guidelines. The rules include that games must limit how much time a user can play in a given stretch before the user\'s character suffers serious in-game penalties. Games affected include World of Warcraft and Lineage II, among others that are less well-known to American audiences. The companies that operate World of Warcraft and Lineage II in China have both agreed to integrate the system once it is ready in late 2005 or early 2006.

Fable: The Lost Chapters Preview
game: Fable: The Lost Chapters
preview | 08/25/05 | Tristan Mayshark
When Fable was originally announced on the PC, it was going to be one of the greatest, most complicated RPGs ever created. That was the theory, at least. When the final product finally appeared on the Xbox, it had changed systems, lost features, and been forced to admit that it was not as sophisticated or as massive as had originally been planned. Still, the title found success where it counted: it was fun. Now, Fable is returning to the system on which it started, showing up on the PC as Fable: The Lost Chapters. We\'re here to help keep you briefed on what to expect from this wayward child.

Xbox 360 Bundles Have Gamers Throwing Fits
news | 08/24/05 | Shawn Rider
EB Games is the first major retailer to post their Xbox 360 preorder page and reveal that they will be selling the console in two bundles (corresponding to the two flavors Microsoft is releasing) which increase the price of each system by $300. This move does not bode well for gamers this holiday season, who are used to being forced into bad bundles in order to purchase scarce new hardware.

Bethesda, maker of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, has confirmed that their upcoming 360 title will utilize the Xbox 360 hard drive. They also confirm, however, that the game will function on the $300 version of the system, as well, merely pointing out that it would be better to own the system with a hard drive. This begs the question: What\'s going to be the difference?

Sometimes games are not forgiving. You find yourself battling a monster for the hundredth time, and you can't help but wonder if maybe your game system might look better disassembled and strung out as wall decoration.
