Xbox vs. Xbox 360 with Video Capture: Side-by-Side Comparisons
game: Xbox 360
feature | 12/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
Last week, we here at GamesFirst published a side-by-side comparison of King Kong on the Xbox and Xbox 360. By looking at nearly identical games, it\'s interesting to see the graphical differences between the two. However, the Xbox 360\'s major differences are in the ability to render dynamic lighting and environmental effects, which are difficult to see in static screenshots. As a result, we\'ve redone the article using side-by-side video capture from each system. The differences are both more obvious, in the cases when a difference is visible, and more underwhelming, when certain key scenes are difficult to distinguish between the two. Take a look, and decide for yourself.

King's Quest IX is Saved By Gamer Loyalty
game: King's Quest IX (Now The Silver Lining)
news | 12/11/05 | Aaron Stanton
We here at GamesFirst want to congratulate everyone working on the King\'s Quest IV project, and a thumbs up to everyone that helped save it. On December 9th, 2005, Vivendi Universal, who owns the publishing rights to King\'s Quest, announced that they would allow King\'s Quest IV to be developed with a name change to, \"The Silver Lining.\" This came about after the gaming community pulled together and made enough noise to change Vivendi\'s mind, who had shut down the project with a cease and desist letter. Kudos to Vivendi, as well, for being a large company that\'s still willing to change its mind from time to time.

Perfect Dark Zero Review
game: Perfect Dark Zero
review | 11/23/05 | Jeremy Kauffman
Joanna Dark finally makes her return on the Xbox 360 in the long awaited prequel, Perfect Dark Zero. Joanna is younger, hipper and has a few new tricks up her sleeve, but she also has a serious sophomore hill to climb: Perfect Dark was one of the genre-defining console FPS games on the N64 and gained a dedicated following. And in the new generation, comparisons to Halo are inevitable. Can PDZ manage to satisfy both the old school N64 fans and those expecting a next-generation marvel? Read and see.

Twoplayer Comic: Did You Say Something?
comic | 11/15/05 | Aaron Stanton
Sometimes articles rub people the wrong way. Sometimes somebody criticises a beloved video game, or says the wrong thing in an editorial about Nintendo. Sometimes, though, they just mention the fact that they\'re a girl that happens to play games. This week\'s twoplayer comic is partially in response to the reader reaction we got from an article we published last week called, sfirst.com/index.php?id=958\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">A Look Behind Alice: A Woman\'s Reason for Gaming. The character profile of a casual gamer was received with mixed results. sfirst.com/index.php?thisComic=37\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">Did You Say Something? is this week\'s twoplayer comic.

GF! Mailbag
feature | 11/12/05 | Matt James
Matt\'s back with another bag full of the good stuff. This time through the Mailbag we\'ve got some more comments about the revolution controller (they just don\'t stop), a bit of \"debate\" about the veracity of the Giantology.net website, and once again GamesFirst! exhibits deft diplomatic skillZ and averts yet another potential international conflict. No thanks necessary. That\'s what we\'re here for.

game: X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse
review | 11/11/05 | Shawn Rider
X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse is the sequel to last year\'s breakout hit, and the return of the franchise is triumphant. The PSP version of Rise of Apocalypse features all the goodness of the home console versions, including a robust online multiplayer mode that lets you team up with players from all over the world. With a great X-Men story, super satisfying action-RPG gameplay, and loads of extras and unlockables, Rise of Apocalypse is one of the best things out for PSP right now.

FPS Creator Opens Game Dev to Regular Folks
game: FPS Creator
review | 11/09/05 | Shawn Rider
FPS Creator is a remarkably useful tool for making first-person shooters. Single player FPS narratives are possible using the many premade program elements, which can quickly be applied to your characters and props. Arena games are also supported, although we\'re no convinced that\'s the big attraction here. Really, we just want to make a GamesFirst! theme FPS like Deus Ex. Or maybe \"This Game Sucks: The Game\"? Keep an eye out for it. In the meantime, check out Shawn\'s review of FPS Creator.

Twoplayer Comic: My Eyes! Arrrrrgh...
game: Doom 3
comic | 11/07/05 | Aaron Stanton
The Doom movie managed to hit #1 in the box office right after its release. Since then, competition from other titles have forced it down the chart, with one magazine reporting a 120% drop less than a week after it\'s release. Don\'t ask me how that\'s possible, except that - if the charts wrap-around to the top of the screen like many old NES games - that would put them way up there at the top. Possibly one of the greatest money makers of all time. Who knows? Take a look at this week\'s twoplayer comic (sfirst.com/index.php?thisComic=35\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">Part I and sfirst.com/index.php?thisComic=36\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">Part II) to see which Doom-isms made a safe transition from the game to the movie.

Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction Review
game: Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
review | 11/05/05 | Matt James
When done right, the synergy of comic book and videogame can fulfill the deepest desires of many a fanboy and fangirl. The latest comic game to get it right, Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, is a must-play for any fan of the Hulk comics, and is tight enough to reward anyone with even a passing interest. Utilizing an open gameplay and mission scheme, Ultimate Destruction satisfies with an engrossing Hulk storyline and a living-world Hulk experience. And it\'s amazing how satisfying it is to just break sh*t.
