news | 08/09/06 | Chris Martin
TVG reported today that that From Software, the developer responsible for Chromehounds on the Xbox 360, but better known for the Armored Core series, has told Famitsu they have stopped production on two games for the PS3: Dark RPG and Black Blade. Whether these titles would even have been released stateside is up in the air, From Software has not given reasons for stopping production (too difficult to develop for or higher production costs are notorious forum rumors).

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends Review
game: Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends
review | 08/05/06 | Jason Perkins
Microsoft Game Studios seemed to have a slight misstep with Age of Empires III, a fun if not limited RTS that almost redeemed itself with the home city feature. Rise of Nations, another MGS production under the development of Big Head Games was a beakout hit and critically acclaimed. The sequel, Thrones and Patriots, proved that they weren\'t going to fall into the Sophomore curse. Now with Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, Big Head Studios has left the historic battleground for one of a new flavor - that of the fantastic. But while the gameplay favors variety, technical problems and some amateur voice acting hinder an otherwise spirited game.

news | 07/30/06 | Aaron Stanton
In a turn of events that is so unexpected it reminds us of an April Fools joke out of season, Next-gen.biz is reporting insider information that E3 2007 is canceled. The magazine reports that a number of large companies (we can only assume companies like Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, EA, or Ubisoft) have decided to withdraw from the exposition. Without the support of the yet unnamed companies, the ESA is considering closing E3 in its present form. Next-gen reports that an official announcement is expected in the next few days, as in 48 hours. Next-Gen.biz has proven to be reliable in the past. When its editor was asked about the story, he repeated his confidence in the story\'s sources and replied, \"I\'m sure the story is right. E3 is done.\"

The new generation of gaming consoles helps bring all forms of digital entertainment together. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have all made efforts to turn their game systems into media hubs, capable of serving the full range of your entertainment needs. This has put gamers on the bleeding edge of the future of television, and there\'s one tool all of them need to discover: TVersity. TVersity is a media server that runs on your PC and makes your music, videos and photos accessible to a huge number of devices, including your PSP or mobile phone. We got a chance to ask Ronen Mizrahi, creator of TVersity, a few questions about the convergence of gaming and digital media, and he dropped a few exciting tidbits on us (like the fact that the next release of TVersity will support Xbox 360). Titan Quest Review
game: Titan Quest
review | 07/25/06 | George Holomshek
Titan Quest is a 3rd person action RPG that brings Diablo-style gameplay to Clash of the Titans-style content. The result is a bit brainless, but oozing with cool, especially if you\'re a fan of Harryhausen-esque skeleton battles and Greek mythology. Titan Quest does almost nothing new, but it does all of that old stuff really well. If you\'re a fan of the action RPG, or Medusas, Minotaurs and guys in leather skirts, then you should at least check out George\'s review.

Another Great Platformer Based on a Cartoon: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp
game: Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp
review | 07/21/06 | Laurie Taylor
Ami and Yumi are back in Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp, fresh from D3 Publisher, whose lineup this year includes several noteworthy titles. For the younger set, The Genie and the Amp is pretty much right on: A cool franchise is done justice with good production and solid game design. This won\'t popularize the Puffy AmiYumi franchise with the hardcore gaming demographic, but it will be a hit on the playground. Read Laurie\'s review for the details.

review | 07/15/06 | George Holomshek
CDV and developer Monte Cristo bring us City Life, a new take on the city sim with City Life. As Mr. Wright moves on to managing the galaxy, what are we to do as mere mortals who are probably reaching a bit too far to even imagine ourselves as \"mayoral material?\" The big new hook is a social awareness aspect that makes it necessary to manage neighborhoods and social class to spice up your urban planning fantasies. If you\'re in the mood for another stab at building your metropolis, check out George\'s review here.

Vile Lair Download for Oblivion Merges Haven with Utility in a Package You Won't Want To Miss
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 07/12/06 | Chris Martin
True to their word, Bethesda isn\'t done with updating their magnum opus The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The latest update is a \"vile lair\" for all you thieves, assassins, and rogues, and even if you\'re just plain evil. It\'s got all you could ever want to feed your bloodlust: evil shrines, evil minions, and even a pen of cattle to feed on. Bloodlust be damned. It might not have a coded fix for some of the bugs in the game, but you\'ll be surprised if it doesn\'t have one of the most coveted cures in all of Tamriel. If you thought the Wizard\'s Tower was cool, you\'re going to love this.

The Movies: Stunts and Effects Review
game: The Movies: Stunts and Effects
review | 07/07/06 | Jason Perkins
Lionhead Studios addressed the lack of special effects in last year\'s The Movies by releasing an expansion pack, The Movies: Stunts and Effects. Installing the new expansion changes very little in the simulation until you\'ve played through the 1960s, but opens up a wide range of options for the machinima community. Budding directors can now control a freely movable camera and place stuntmen into precariously dangerous situations. Stunts and Effects is aimed at gamers who are already invested in The Movies and want to make it better; for everyone else it\'s just a worthy addition that adds yet another group of needy staffers for the player to manage. Sounds Good, Good Sounds: Turtle Beach Ear Force X2 Review
game: Ear Force X2
review | 06/29/06 | Shawn Rider
Turtle Beach brings their Xbox-targeted headphones to a whole new level of quality with the Ear Force X2 Wireless Xbox Headphones. The Ear Force X2 is a (mostly) wireless setup that works very nicely with your Xbox 360 console, providing high quality audio and voice chat in a audiophile quality package. And the X2 headphones deliver the goods for just under a hundred bucks, which makes them a natural choice. We can see why the MLG would license these as the \"official\" headphones of Major League Gaming.
