Project Offset Preview
game: Project Offset
preview | 10/26/05 | Shawn Rider
Every once in awhile an indy game comes along that really makes you sit up and take notice. After seeing titles like Alan Wake or Darwinia developed by independent groups without the immediate support of a publisher, we\'re not surprised to see Project Offset, an epic fantasy first-person shooter in development by four individuals who want to play a really cool game (which is the best motivation for making a game). We\'re not surprised, but we\'re definitely impressed.

The first episode corresponds to the current trial, and is called \"The Crime of Dujail: Saddam\'s Revenge.\" In 1982, Saddam\'s motorcade was attacked, and Saddam is reported to have ordered the public executions of 143 villagers and the imprisonment of 1500 more Iraqis. Kuma War\'s recreation focuses on the motorcade ambush as players try to assassinate the dictator. In an announcement sure to get gamers everywhere all worked up, Microsoft announced at the X05 Amsterdam expo that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh (creators of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy and the upcoming King Kong) will be Executive Producers on the upcoming Halo movie. The news also means that Academy Award winning New Zealand effects house, Weta Digital, will also be involved in the movie, which is another great sign. It looks like Halo might just set the bar a little higher for the old game-to-film adaptation, just as it did for the console-based FPS and again for console-based online multiplayer.

Brand New Perfect Dark Zero Screen, Music, Bio
game: Perfect Dark Zero
news | 09/30/05 | Shawn Rider
Perfect Dark Zero has so far been one of the most enigmatic Xbox 360 launch titles. After showing us glimpses of 50 player multiplayer on their MTV Xbox 360 unveiling, we expected to see PDZ at E3. But it wasn\'t there. It was at Tokyo Game Show, and we recently posted some links to some shakey-cam footage of PDZ gameplay which has us all debating the relative greatness potential for the game. Details are still slow to come out about Perfect Dark Zero, but we have one screen and an MP3 of one of the music tracks from the game to pass on.

Rainbow Six: Lockdown Review
game: Rainbow Six: Lockdown
review | 09/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
Rainbow Six is a game franchise that we really cherish here at GamesFirst, so when Lockdown came out with horrible flaws we couldn\'t help but feel disappointed. Truth is, the game\'s entire AI system is just plain stupid. We didn\'t think you\'d believe us if we just showed you pictures and wrote about being able to withstand 7.5 minutes of weapon fire, so we\'ve included video clips of our character being all immortal and impervious to bullets. Funny thing; you actually die more if you take cover. Check it out.
