Xbox 360 to Repel Hackers With Deadly Laser Beams
game: Xbox 360
news | 09/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
A member of the Xbox 360 development team has told BBC that Microsoft\'s next generation game system will be difficult to hack. We can only speculate about what that means. It also brings to mind a few other interesting attempts by companies in the past to prevent hacking, such as Nintendo\'s brilliant move to make the GameCube so unpopular that no one would care. We here at GamesFirst have figured out a fool proof hacking system, though, that works pretty much every time.

Are We 12 Days From the Revolution?
news | 09/04/05 | Aaron Stanton
Will Nintendo unveil the Revolution controller at the Tokyo Game Show in 12 days? There\'s been a lot of speculation on the Internet that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata will hold nothing back when the show arrives, showing off the controller and the first screenshots of actual Revolution games. Is it going to happen? The source of these rumors is somewhat difficult to track down, so no one is willing to say for sure. Still, it seems like as good a place as any for a major policy shift, right? While Nintendo has found tremendous success in the handheld market (Nintendogs, anyone?), they've consistently fallen behind in the home console arena. The Revolution is their chance to turn it around.

Stephen Johnson, author of Everything Bad Is Good For You: How Today\'s Popular Culture Is Actually Making Us Smarter (Riverhead Books), wrote a wonderful open letter to Hillary Clinton in the LA Times regarding the recent flare-up of the old \"videogames are evil\" controversy. He brings up just about all of the relevant counterpoints to this month\'s mass hysteria and political jockeying. It\'s really a must-read.

Show Your Game Who's Boss
Articles Archive | 07/26/05 | Chris Martin
Sometimes games are not forgiving. You find yourself battling a monster for the hundredth time, and you can't help but wonder if maybe your game system might look better disassembled and strung out as wall decoration. Before you start shoving peanut butter into the DVD drive of your console as punishment, take a breath and read about getting by those difficult situations. No matter what the game, these tips will probably help.

E3 2005: Civilization IV
game: E3 2005: Civilization IV
preview | 05/24/05 | Blaine Krumpe
There were some dissapointments down at E3 this year, what with lack of any real gameplay footage from a number of hyped games. Civilization 4, the hotly anticipated title from strategy master Civ Meier, fell into that category, sadly. Blaine was able to drudge up some info.

Obscure
game: Obscure
review | 05/21/05 | Laurie Taylor
Obscure is to survival horror games as Scream was to teen horror flicks. With a cool two-player co-op mode and a bargain basement price, this is one of those "sure to be a cult hit" games that some gamers are going to really enjoy, and others will probably find pretty decent. If you've played a lot of horror games, you should really check this one out. And don't let the Sum 41 put you off.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
game: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
review | 02/24/05 |
Knights of the Old Republic II finds itself in the difficult position of trying to improve on one of the best games in recent years. The result is a game built on tried and true game dynamics, a darker emphasis than the original, and a new story that takes you from Star Wars planet to Star Wars planet, but doesn't break ground and drops you at the end. A blast to play, but missing a little bit of that special magic that was captured in the first, KotoRII might not rock your world. David has the inside scoop.
