Meridian 4 has brought us another indy European import that might not be quite up to next-gen graphical standards, but features a great story full of horrific twists. Daemonica is a compelling RPG set in a 14th Century European town having a little trouble keeping the life and the afterlife completely separate. (We have the same problem with Oblivion.) The action is light, but the price is right, and the narrative was enough to impress our guy, Blaine. Check out his review here.

Shadowgrounds is budget-priced and independently developed, but this isn\'t just another top-down shooter, and there\'s nothing \"low-tech\" about it. The time of console transition can be difficult, especially when it seems so clear that there is still life left in the current generation. Great proof of that untapped potential comes in the form of Black, out now from developer Criterion and Electronic Arts. Black arrives at the end of the current generation, but still delivers overwhelming graphics, sexy firearms, big explosions, and bigger explosions. But is shrapnel and pretty lighting effects enough to make gamers go for an FPS with no multiplayer? Check Tristan\'s review for the verdict.

The website for the Xbox 360 modchip known as LiThIuM I.C.E. went live in the early hours of January 7th, 2006. While there\'s nothing there yet to cast much additional light on the chip or its creators, one comment on the site does include a date: January 31st, 2006. Is this the release date, or an extension of the two-week pre-order date mentioned on InfinityMods.com? It\'s hard to say. The site also includes information on the chip\'s development time-line, and reseller policies. We\'re all holding our breaths waiting for the site to finish launching, and we\'ll keep you posted.
game: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

According to NGC Magazine, and reported by Game Daily, the upcoming Legend of Zelda title, Twilight Princess, will be playable with the Nintendo Revolution controller. This news has not been confirmed by Nintendo, and Twilight Princess will still be officially released for the Gamecube. According to Games Radar, the online affiliate of NGC Magazine (a print magazine published in the UK, US, and Japan), Twilight Princess will support a radical new control style if played on the Nintendo Revolution console with its unique controller.

The Movies has disappointed a lot of people by being a great sim game, but a less than flexible Machinima tool. The sandbox mode, instead of being an unlimited playground for creative use, is limited in some respects by what you\'ve unlocked in the campaign mode. In an attempt to highlight the fan community\'s use of their game as a way to express themselves, Activision is bringing attention to one fan created movie called, \"The French Democracy.\" And they\'ve chosen well. Retelling the events of the French riots in October of 2005, it\'s easily one of the most interesting examples of using The Movies as a creative tool we\'ve seen.

Last week, we here at GamesFirst published a side-by-side comparison of King Kong on the Xbox and Xbox 360. By looking at nearly identical games, it\'s interesting to see the graphical differences between the two. However, the Xbox 360\'s major differences are in the ability to render dynamic lighting and environmental effects, which are difficult to see in static screenshots. As a result, we\'ve redone the article using side-by-side video capture from each system. The differences are both more obvious, in the cases when a difference is visible, and more underwhelming, when certain key scenes are difficult to distinguish between the two. There\'s an article over at TheHylia.com that pools what we know about The Twilight Princess\' placement in the Hyrule time-line, and makes some interesting conclusions. Twilight Princess happens decades after Ocarina of Time, but before Wind Waker? Interestingly, we know what happens after Ocarina of Time from the introduction of Wind Waker: No hero appears, everything goes to crap. If Link is there somewhere in-between, he fails.
game: King Of Fighters 2002/2003

King of Figthers 2002/2003 is another doublepack from SNK highlighting quality ports of their classic franchise. This time around the fighting games get a new online versus mode, but that\'s not nearly enough to make this one appealing to anyone not already a King of Fighters fan. The series is feeling dated to the uninitiated, and for most folks, King of Fighters 2002/2003 is a pass (unless you\'re planning a fun-filled evening of gaming with your dad).

Hideo Kojima has officially joined the blogosphere.
Hideoblog, hosted on Konami\'s Kojima Productions site, is an interesting read. It\'s a classic example of bringing some everyday humanity to a legendary figure, and reading Kojima\'s descriptions of checking email while eating lunch and the
light reflecting from Tokyo\'s Roppongi Hills brings a real sense of the man behind the Metal Gear Solid franchise. And on some days Kojima is doing things like getting his copy of Hard Boiled autographed by Frank Miller. It\'s a bit surreal, and should be a must-read for any Kojima acolytes. Check it out.

Majesco has announced several exciting unlockable characters for Infected, the fast-paced shooter for the PSP. Announced unlockable characters for Infected include Bloodrayne and members of Slipknot. Given Infected\'s gruesome gameplay footage that mixes horror and Christmas, and given Infected\'s rocking soundtrack with several tracks from Slipknot, Infected is shaping up to be a major November release. We\'ll still have to see how Infected shapes up in
light of
World of Warcraft\'s adventures in virtual plagues, but it looks like it will be a great game and an important game for the PSP.

Gears of War is the new shooter from Cliffy B and the crew at Epic that\'s got everyone going, \"Damn!\" The visuals here are absolutely incredible, from the dirty textures of a wartorn humanity pitted against monstrous enemies from the bowels of the Earth, to the delicate lighting effects that challenge the greatest cinematographers and most sensitive painterly visions. We can only hope that the gameplay and story live up to the huge graphical promise of Unreal Engine 3. Check out these screens for a real idea of what the Xbox 360 can do.

Microsoft isn\'t one to be left behind in the wake of Nintendo\'s announcement of the Revolution\'s controller.
