Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30
game: Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30
review | 04/07/05 | Chris Martin
In a genre crowded with other titles based on similar concepts, how can a World War II FPS distinguish itself? In Brothers in Arms' case, you simply craft an experience with such detail and attention to the atmosphere of war that the player can't help but feel the bullets zipping by their head. Put aside all those other games that try to offer authentic WWII fighting experience; no one does the job quite as well as Gearbox Software's Brothers in Arms: The Road to Hill 30. Xitel SoundAROUND
game: Xitel SoundAROUND
review | 03/27/05 | Aaron Stanton
Xitel's SoundAROUND is a nifty little device with big claims. The SoundAROUND attempts to create a rich 3D surround sound environment capable of competing with a 5.1 speaker system, but using only two speakers. At the same time that it tries to trick your brain into hearing sounds from behind you when there are no sounds there, it ups the bass without overdriving your speakers. Is it magic? Does it work? Read our review to see how well the actual unit compares to the one Xitel advertises.

Champions: Return to Arms
game: Champions: Return to Arms
review | 03/26/05 | George Holomshek
Top down hack-and-slash games are some of the most consistent in the game industry; if you like the genre, you can pretty much expect to have an equally good time with almost any game. Champions: Return to Arms comes to the stage as the sequel to Champions of Norrath, and finds itself burdened with the typical problems of the field; fun, but with limited depth. Still, with hours of gameplay and varied local, it's worth a look for anyone that can't get enough of smashing barrels and hunting for treasure by killing random wild animals. Cops 2170: The Power Of Law
game: Cops 2170: The Power Of Law
review | 03/19/05 | Eric Bodrero
When a game touts mechanical rats capable of shooting at you, it's either a sign of genius, guts, or both on the part of the developer. In the case of Cops 2170, it's just the second; the combination of poor play dynamics and a few key design decisions leave the game with less of a positive punch than we could have hoped. If there is genius here, a few more months of development time before releasing the game onto the public might have made it more apparent. Read our full review to learn more.

The Punisher
game: The Punisher
review | 03/02/05 | Monica Hafer
If you're looking for a night of good, clean fun, The Punisher is probably not where you want to start. This dark conversion of the comic-turned movie is another example of comic book plotlines making it to the small screen, and the result is a game that lets you torture bad guys until they spill the beans, but barely interact with pretty much anyone or anything else. Though there's some real talent in the production values, some serious lack of depth keeps it from being all the kick-ass it could be. Read the full review for details.

preview | 02/27/05 | George Holomshek
There's no such thing as a Star Wars movie without a Star Wars game, and Episode III is no exception. Scheduled to release just two weeks before the final episode turns sweet little annoying Anakin into a menacing man in black, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith lets you take on the movies as either light or dark, as Anakin or Obi-Wan. Read our preview for more information on graphics, sound, and choreographing battles.

Second Sight
game: Second Sight
review | 02/23/05 | Chris Martin
It seems like a fundamental rule of thumb in video games: coma = amnesia and psychic powers. Few games execute the mystery and atmosphere of such creepy going-ons, though, as well as Free Radical's budget title Second Sight. It's atmospheric and story driven, and worth your money if you're looking for a game that will keep your interest. Read the full review to find out the details.

LucasArts Focus: Star Wars: Empire at War
game: LucasArts Focus: Star Wars: Empire at War
preview | 02/14/05 | Blaine Krumpe
For some time, Star Wars games have had a perpetual hold on video game fans looking to experience more of the epic universe. The games themselves have traditionally been a mixed bag, with some good, some bad, and a few that radiated the dark side every time you passed the display case. The latest games in the pipeline, though, look to be full of the good stuff, from already released games like Knights of the Old Republic to the upcoming Republic Commando. One of those games is Empire at War, a real time strategy with all the stuff to be a hit. Check out Blaine's preview for a glimpse of things to come.

Kuon
game: Kuon
review | 02/12/05 | Laurie Taylor
Kuon on the PS2 seems like a minor release when compared to the new Resident Evil 4, but then perhaps that's part of its appeal. As an import title that you might have a hard time finding at your local rental outlet, Kuon offers rich import flavors, gameplay, and traditional survival horror control schemes. Does it have a place on your shelf? Read the review to find out.

Ubisoft Focus: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
game: Ubisoft Focus: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
preview | 02/09/05 | Chris Martin
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow was unique in its ability to offer a multiplayer experience that was balanced and fun even though it had completely different play dynamics depending on the side you were on. Now, Chaos Theory aims to have spies working through levels in tandem with Co-op multiplay, a slew of new gadgets, and such added features as proximity communications. Getting a guard's attention is no longer a matter of just pressing a button to whistle, but actually whistling into your communicator. Will it work? If past experience with the series is any indication, it probably will. What else does Sam have up his sleeve this year? You'll have to read the preview to find out.

Resident Evil 4
game: Resident Evil 4
review | 01/24/05 | George Holomshek
As so many gamers will tell you, zombies make for good gaming. And the OG zombie shooter is Resident Evil. When it first came out, the RE series was an amazing achievement featuring moody camera angles and truly frightening gameplay. But after three major incarnations, and twice as many spin-offs, it's hard to keep the magic alive. So we were a little nervous about Resident Evil 4, the latest installment of the series. We all huddled in the back shed and then we pushed out one of our new guys, George, to see if the zombies would eat his brain. He got a little munched, but a couple of green herbs fixed him right up, and he managed to come up with an in-depth review. Click the details link for lots more.
