Video Game Politics for the Informed
news | 09/29/05 | Aaron Stanton
Sometimes the best source of news is a blog, and when a good one shows up we\'re obligated to point it out. If you\'ve never heard of the Game Politics blog on LiveJournal, take note, because it\'s a website that should be a part of every serious gamer\'s morning ritual. The website focuses on news that pertains to video games in the political arena, like anti-game rallies, anti-game legislation, and anti-game personalities. At the moment the site is discussing, among other things, Eidos\'s decision to postpone the release of the hotly debated 25-to-Life until 2006. The \"cop-killer simulation\" has been a center for controversy in the mainstream media. If keeping yourself informed about the industry is important, this is a site you\'ll want to check regularly.

Electronic Arts\' latest update to the Burnout series, Burnout: Revenge puts the focus squarely on action and destruction. With many more routes open on each track, and some significant shifting of gameplay elements, this is a sequel that will either be very well-liked, or, if you\'re like our man Tristan, will have you returning to Burnout 3 to try to regain that je ne sais quoi of creating streets full of vehicular carnage.

news | 09/27/05 | Aaron Stanton
For those of you that have been waiting anxiously for the viral marketing site Origenxbox360.com to drop leaves and grow fruit, you can relax now. The site finished its countdown to September 27th today, a countdown that\'s been punctuated over time by minute changes such as a bunny rabbit that came and went, and occasional fruit that appeared on the tree. Speculation has run wild on what was going to happen on September 27th, with people throwing out gems like the announcement of Halo 3 or an updated Halo 2 for the 360. The truth behind the countdown is not nearly so exciting, and apparently led to the opening of a European contest for an invite to some sort of Xbox 360 launch party. news | 09/27/05 | Shawn Rider
I-Play, developer of mobile games in Europe and the US, has just completed a five country survey of mobile gaming habits. The study compares the views of American and European mobile gamers and finds several interesting differences: Americans are driven by a need to \"win\" the game, yet US mobile gamers prefer \"casual\" games while their Euro counterparts prefer \"action\" titles. Circle of Light: The Concept Behind Microsoft's Killer Strategy
editorial | 09/24/05 | Chris Martin
Microsoft isn\'t one to be left behind in the wake of Nintendo\'s announcement of the Revolution\'s controller. They might not be rolling out a redesigned input device, but it doesn\'t mean they aren\'t being revolutionary. What\'s Microsoft\'s revolution? It\'s Live. Their inclusion of the Live service in every Xbox 360 sold makes it clear that they consider the gaming community itself to be the revolutionary aspect of gaming. Take a moment to read about Microsoft\'s approach to the game industry.

Ask Me About the Revolution
news | 09/22/05 | Aaron Stanton
Chris Kohler, contributor to Wired Magazine, had a chance to take Nintendo\'s Revolution for a run while he was at the Tokyo Game Show, and he\'s opened himself to questions. He\'s generously started a thread over on the Gaming-Age forums where he offers to answer people\'s requests for information. While the questions are not always great, Chris\'s responses are very informative, including discussing Metroid and how it felt on the controller. We personally don\'t recommend reading every post on the forum, but we do recommend that you scan down the page looking for every post by Kobun Heat, which is Chris Kohler\'s handle. That\'s where the goodies are.

Revolution and the Next Generation of Gaming, or Popular Belief and the Gaming Industry
editorial | 09/20/05 | Chris Martin
Never a crew to let a single viewpoint dominate (we\'re still cleaning up the offices from the Great Console Wars of 01/02), our man Chris Martin has stepped up to the metaphorical typewriter. Those of you who find the Nintendo Revolution a bit too syrupy-sweet and dreamily perfect most likely share some of Chris\' concerns.

Why Nintendo Gets It, or Why Sony Should Start Trying
editorial | 09/17/05 | Shawn Rider
With the announcement of the Revolution controller, Nintendo has proven that, at least some of the time, they really \"get\" it. Get what? Gaming. In a next-gen lineup that has been, frankly, a total snooze-fest, the Revolution has finally shown us a sliver of light, which we think will broaden into a bright new direction for game design to explore. While Sony and Microsoft are content to release platform upgrades, it looks like Nintendo is the only one attempting to move gaming to a new generation.

Did Any Revolution Mock-ups Get It Right?
game: Nintendo Revolution
editorial | 09/16/05 | Aaron Stanton
Nintendo has pulled the Revolution controller from its magic hat, and the gaming community is now reeling in surprise. Initial responses around GamesFirst have ranged from, \"Wow,\" to, \"That\'s the ugliest thing I\'ve ever seen.\" How well the controller works depends on the quality of games Nintendo and third party developers can produce. Another question, though: After months of fan mock-ups and fake Revolution photos, did any of them get it right? Did anyone get even close? Turns out one or two did.

George, our resident Nintendophile, rolls around some ideas about the newly revealed Revolution controller. With few details to go on, George outlines some of the potential of the new controller, as well as some of our reservations (such as, what is the legal limit to the number of \"dongle\" jokes we can make in a single article?). Check out his impressions of the Revolution controller in this editorial.
