Five girls from Ravenna, Ohio face possible charges for hanging up Super Mario Bros. question cubes around town on April Fools day. Part of a Net-wide phenomenon, hanging SMB cubes is a very cool thing. How surreal would it be to happen upon these things in real life? Apparently too surreal for the citizens of Ravenna, who called out the hazardous materials unit and the bomb squad to remove the boxes. Of course, we always knew Ohio had issues (that last election didn\'t go so well...). Get Shawn\'s reaction here.

From the \"Worlds Collide\" newsbin, it looks like Capcom and Ubisoft are cozying up for some cross-platform releases. Ubisoft has just announced a deal with Capcom to release Resident Evil 4, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante\'s Awakening Special Edition for the PC. Sony Online Entertainment sends word that Untold Legends: The Warrior\'s Code has gone gold and is on-target for a March 13 release date. That\'s almost exactly a year after the launch of the PSP and the first in the Untold Legends series. The first time out, Untold Legends was good, but a bit boneheaded and low on the charisma points. This time out, SOE has taken great pains to make Warrior\'s Code more appealing on virtually every level, plus it now features true online multiplayer. Sega is unloading on the Xbox 360 with both Full Auto and Chromehounds coming out in the coming weeks. Chromehounds is based on an alternate Cold War history that places you in charge of a big, destructive robot fighting for one of three factions. Developed by Armored Core veterans, From Software, Chromehounds has the pedigree to be a very good game. The screens look gorgeous, and we are excited to get our hands on a playable version of this one. Get the details here.
game: Final Fantasy XI

Final Fantasy has been a holdout series, maintaining its PlayStation 2 exclusivity for the larger part of this previous generation. (Square Enix did give in and release some Final Fantasy games for Gamecube and GBA in the past few years.) The Xbox 360 will break down those walls. Not only is Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi bringing a series of exclusive games to Xbox 360 with his new company, but Final Fantasy XI will arrive on the platform, too. The latest copy of Xbox Magazine features a Final Fantasy XI beta test disc for Xbox 360 owners. If you\'re a fan of FF, then you\'ll want to check this out. Armored Core is a tricky series: Gamers typically love it or hate it. Stat-hounds and customization freaks really dig the hardcore gearhead approach to battle bots, while the rest of us stick to more action-oriented titles for our big mech enjoyment. Nonetheless, the first Armored Core game is out for the PSP. Armored Core: Formula Front-- Extreme Battle is a fan-targeted title, geared towards current fans of the Armored Core series and fairly inaccessible for newcomers. Matt James has the rundown.

We reported back in October about an anti-violent videogame law passed by California legislators and signed by Governor Schwarzenegger, who has starred in enough violent videogames to know something about the matter. The legislation immediately sparked a lawsuit from the Entertainment Software Association, which argues that the law is both unnecessary and impedes the First Ammendment rights of minors. Yesterday a US District Judge Ronald Whyte issued an injunction against the law, citing the likelihood of the ESA winning its case to reverse the legislation, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Though large publishers like EA and Ubisoft might get most of the mainstream media coverage, the most creative companies sometimes tend to be smaller, less well known. Ambrosia Software, creators of Darwinia, have come up with another instantly recognizable success. Now heading into Beta, SketchFighter 4000 is an action exploration game that\'s defined by its presentation. The entire game looks like it was drawn during third period on a notepad.

Alexander describes a method of using the Ben\'s Bargains Xbox 360 Shipment Tracker along with URLy Warning, a program that allows you to monitor web pages for any changes. By following the simple instructions outlined on Alexander\'s blog, you can be sure to find the Xbox 360s as soon as they arrive in your neighborhood. Check it out.

We here at GamesFirst want to congratulate everyone working on the King\'s Quest IV project, and a thumbs up to everyone that helped save it. On December 9th, 2005, Vivendi Universal, who owns the publishing rights to King\'s Quest, announced that they would allow King\'s Quest IV to be developed with a name change to, \"The Silver Lining.\" This came about after the gaming community pulled together and made enough noise to change Vivendi\'s mind, who had shut down the project with a cease and desist letter. Kudos to Vivendi, as well, for being a large company that\'s still willing to change its mind from time to time.

The gaming industry has grown large; Hollywood large. This means that while we can expect to find more and more gamers in the general population, we can also expect large companies to milk that success for all it\'s worth. If you think the images shown in game ads are accurate, think again; the people you see in video game ads tend to be more telling about the demographic they\'re targeting than about the current audience. Someone is trying to make video games cool, and it cramps our style.

While Shattered Union offers a great setting (near-future American Civil War) along with your basic old school turn-based wargaming, it doesn\'t do nearly enough with the setting, and the turn-based tactical game is unfortunately overshadowed by a god-awful campaign mode. Nintendo announced on Tuesday that they would partner with McDonald\'s restaurants to provide free wifi access for Nintendo DS owners. McDonald\'s already offers wifi connectivity in 6000 locations in America, but normally charges for internet access. The deal with Nintendo provides free access to gamers using the DS. The free access, coupled with popular wifi-enabled titles like Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing DS, could be a genuine attractor for kids, making McDonald\'s a popular hangout.

Gamestop completed its buyout of EB Games this week, making it the single largest game retailer in the country, as reported by Game Daily Biz. The merger creates a company with 4200 retail outlets worldwide, and expected annual revenues of $5 billion. Analysts expect the merger to lead to an increase in the used game market, which has recently been attacked by game publisher organizations as being detrimental to their business. The merger may well mean lower trade-in prices for gamers, too, which might in turn lead to an increase in traffic for online game trading sites as gamers flock to more worthwhile deals. And the news can only be seen as an indication that pre-release reservations and package bundles will enjoy unbridled growth. That could be problematic for gamers expecting to preorder an already very pricey PlayStation 3.
