Report Claims PS3 Games Will Sell for Between $76 and $84
news | 09/25/06 | Aaron Stanton
The PS3\'s spendy price tag already has many gamers up in arms and puts the system completely outside the range of most casual spenders. With the PS3 clocking in at hundreds of dollars above the entry price of their competition, what could they possibly do to make their system even more inaccessible? How about games selling for between $76 and $84 each? A Japanese report suggests that they\'ll be doing just that. Reliable? Who knows, but Sony\'s recent history suggests that they\'re prepared to believe that gamers will accept any price they decide to offer, so who knows?

Is E3 Going Away?: Next-Gen Reports Possible Cancellation of E3 2007
news | 07/30/06 | Aaron Stanton
In a turn of events that is so unexpected it reminds us of an April Fools joke out of season, Next-gen.biz is reporting insider information that E3 2007 is canceled. The magazine reports that a number of large companies (we can only assume companies like Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, EA, or Ubisoft) have decided to withdraw from the exposition. Without the support of the yet unnamed companies, the ESA is considering closing E3 in its present form. Next-gen reports that an official announcement is expected in the next few days, as in 48 hours. Next-Gen.biz has proven to be reliable in the past. When its editor was asked about the story, he repeated his confidence in the story\'s sources and replied, \"I\'m sure the story is right. E3 is done.\"

news | 07/24/06 | Monica Hafer
Last week saw the 2006 San Diego Comic Con, the biggest event for comic book fans in the USA, and an annual mecca for comic freaks and comic geeks from all over the world. In other words, it\'s our kind of place, and don\'t think for a minute that there\'s a big distance between comics and videogames. We sent our representative comics and games geek, Monica, to cover the show floor, and the first thing she brought back was first-hand coverage of the Bungie and Marvel meeting to discuss the forthcoming Halo comic series, illustrated by different artists, including more Halo from legendy illustrator, Moebius. Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel Review
game: Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel
review | 07/10/06 | Laurie Taylor
The graphic novel has earned itself a standing as an independent art form over the years, and is now moving into the digital realm. Following in the footsteps of the Silent Hill Experience, Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel comes to the PSP under the banner of a new medium. Except, instead of just telling a good story in classic graphic novel form, the developers felt obligated to include uninteresting and tedious gameplay elements into the presentation. The result is promising, but less than perfect. Graphic novel fans should be excited about the potential, but for now the rich promise of digital graphic novels on the PSP remains unrealized.

Square Enix PR Faces Gamer Wrath for Overreaching Embargo Attempt
game: Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
news | 06/26/06 | Aaron Stanton
1Up.com editor Luke Smith recently called Square Enix to task on a press embargo they attempted to impose for the Japanese release of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. The embargo laid out guidelines about what the press could and couldn\'t say regarding the storyline of the already released Valkyrie Profile 2, including which characters and locations were safe to talk about. Of course, you can\'t embargo publicly available information, and Smith called them on it, opening Enix to a public lashing in the forums. Here\'s to 1Up\'s editors for having the guts to talk about it, and here\'s a sympathetic shake of the head to Square Enix PR. They\'ve got to be slapping themselves on the head right now.

Nibris Unveils New Info and Screens for ?Raid Over the River?
game: Raid Over the River
news | 06/14/06 | George Holomshek
Polish developer Nibris spilled the beans on their upcoming Raid Over the River, an exclusive Nintendo DS and Wii two-part series. When archaeologists in Peru discover an ancient artifact, top-down aerial time-travelling combat ensues (as you probably expected). The game looks and sounds like a spiffed up River Raid, but this revamp includes the addition of touch-screen control elements (most of the game is played traditionally) and voice-activated special moves. The overblown storyline and funky control schemes could make this series one to watch. Get the full story from George, right here.

Nintendo looks to be shipping enough systems to satisfy demand, but this year we\'re concerned again about Sony. With some retailers refusing to take PlayStation 3 preorders, a confusing multi-configuration release offering, and a spotted history of delays and adjustments, PS3 is headed for a rocky launch. We have some details about what to expect on launch day here.

Comparing the CryEngine2 to Real Life
game: Crysis
news | 06/07/06 | Aaron Stanton
Several months ago, a number of EvilGamer.com images began circulating around the web. Released before the launch of the Xbox 360, the images compared PGR3 screenshots to their real-life counterparts out here in the real world. Now there\'s a new image that\'s making the rounds, this time comparing screenshots from Crysis, using the CryEngine2 from CryTek, to two real-world photographs. The results are extremely impressive. Combine these visuals with CryTek\'s insistence that Crysis will push the boundaries of both storytelling and gameplay, and you have a game worth keeping an eye on. Crysis is expected to ship for the PC in the Fall of 2006.

Saint\'s Row comes off as another GTA clone just trying to cash in on the current fads: Gangstas + Free Roaming Play = $$$. But for some reason, it has taken the interest of Mr. RJ Brooks here on the GF! Staff. What is it? The crazy customizable gangster looks? The street cred imported through story advisors with gang affiliations? Nah, it\'s just the sucker-punching civvies as you car-jack them. That\'s gotta be it. Fans of the Shadowrun franchise became excited last week when Microsoft announced the development of a new Shadowrun title. After ten years of being off the computer game market, the intellectual property will be returning to the Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. It\'ll also be the premier title for Live Anywhere, Microsoft\'s new multiplayer service that puts PC users against Xbox 360 users. But without a storyline and game intervals of only 4 minutes each, is Shadowrun abandoning the roots that made it famous? How far can Shadowrun be changed and still be Shadowrun?
