Miyamoto talks big changes for Twilight Princess

As reported by IGN, in a recent interveiw with Japan\'s monthly Nintendo Dream magazine, legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto unveiled that Nintendo has made some serious changes to the control scheme of the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Microsoft Game Studios seemed to have a slight misstep with Age of Empires III, a fun if not limited RTS that almost redeemed itself with the home city feature. Rise of Nations, another MGS production under the development of Big Head Games was a beakout hit and critically acclaimed. The sequel, Thrones and Patriots, proved that they weren\'t going to fall into the Sophomore curse. Now with Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, Big Head Studios has left the historic battleground for one of a new flavor - that of the fantastic. But while the gameplay favors variety, technical problems and some amateur voice acting hinder an otherwise spirited game.

Brand New Darkness Screens Make Light of Game's Progress

Web traffic drops during the summer as gaming news runs dry and warm weather draws people away from their monitors. Fourth of July often represents the summer\'s ultimate low in traffic, and pretty much everyone in the gaming industry takes the day off. If you haven\'t had a chance to spend some time outside in the beautiful weather, now is the perfect day to step outside into the cooling evening, put away the games for a moment, and take in a part of life that doesn\'t run on electricity. Tomorrow we can return to the flash of modern life, but tonight and maybe tomorrow we here at GamesFirst are going to stretch out, light some fireworks, and enjoy a good birthday. The light-gun style genre might be set for a comeback in the near future. Nintendo is pressing new and unusual styles of interaction with the Wii, and shooting games reminiscent of the NES light zapper are sure to be a part of that. Not to be outdone, Namco was showing off the sequel to one of the most notable granddaddy\'s of the light-gun genre, Time Crisis 4. Traditionally released on the PS2, the Time Crisis series is looking true to form and has Rob excited after a bit of hands-on with the title at E3. Time Crisis keeps getting better with time.

The PS3 Afterthought: Hands on with Warhawk

Overall, Sony\'s PlayStation 3 area was pathetic (and less crowded than we\'ve ever seen at the Sony booth since 1999). Other than anti-aliasing issues, wonky early builds, and (at best) 360-quality graphics, there wasn\'t much to talk about. Except one thing: Sony did surprise everyone by announcing a me-too technology that adds tilt-sensitivity to the PS3 controller. How did that work out? Well, Jeremy took some time with the showcase title for the new tilt-controls, Warhawk, a flight combat game that shows how any new control element, no matter how small, can make a moderate game kind of sort of fun. E3 hands on: Battlefield 2142

EA showed off the latest addition to the Battlefield Franchise: Battlefield 2142. This installment adds a little sci-fi flair to the action, but remains true to the roots of the series in its realism and excellent online multiplayer support. We just wish it had some kind of interesting storyline, since the futuristic setting easily allows for the most imaginative (or at least slightly clever) premise of all the Battlefield games. Still, Blaine says we\'ll be able to get over the plot and focus on the action, which is oh-so-sweet. Get the in-depth hands-on preview here.

Twilight Princess might be the star of the show, but the DS Zelda title Phantom Hourglass is still worth a look. Pursuing the cartoon-Link style of Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass fully exploits the DS touch-screen. Players lead Link around by tapping the screen and making a small fairy appear. Link follows this fairy to wherever you want him to go. Sounds wacky? Yep. But George says it\'s actually not bad. Check it out.

Wii and More: Nintendo at E3 2006

Nintendo made a slightly more exclusive showing at E3 this year, but overall showed off some bold new ideas. However, the company\'s focus is not solely on Wii; the DS remains a very successful handheld, and Cube owners were assured they will still receive a version of Twilight Princess. Ubisoft\'s Blazing Angels has a lot to overcome: It\'s another WWII game, and there was a little game for the original Xbox called Crimson Skies that made \"a bit\" of a splash. Fortunately, it has some spectacular graphics, and the air combat focus opens up parts of the war that are generally not exploited. Still, there are some flaws, and Blazing Angels has proven to be a tricky evaluation for our man, Matt. Check out his review here.

Jack Thompson Seeks New Limelight Over Oblivion

Jack Thompson has earned a reputation for championing legislation restricting video games. He\'s appeared on news shows like CNN, often presenting what many would argue is a one-sided assessment of the state of the game industry. Now, he\'s booking appointments for talk show appearances over the recent Oblivion re-rate issue. In a press release sent to GamesFirst, Jack Thompson makes himself available for talk show interviews. The press release contains huge and obvious factual errors, a tactic that\'s been used by Jack Thompson repeatedly in the past. Still, you have to love quotes like, \"(The Oblivion nudity) is not a modification or \"mod\" of the game by gamers. It is an unlocking of content that was put there by Take-Two with the unlocking code provided by the developer!\" If you\'re up for a laugh, or to just be really pissed off, read the full press release.

Shadowgrounds Review

Shadowgrounds is an independently developed European title that comes to North America thanks to Meridian 4, who has also recently announced that Shadowgrounds will be carried on Valve\'s popular Steam service. Featuring frantic top-down shooter action with excellent lighting and plenty of weapons upgrades, Shadowgrounds isn\'t a complicated game, it\'s just fun. Oblivion is one of the first games to really be a system seller for the Xbox 360 (that is, if you can find a 360). Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has consistently been impressing reviewers and gamers alike. The expansive world and do-anything style of gameplay is quickly coming to define what consumers think of as next generation.
