New Screens from Marc Ecko's Getting Up
game: Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure
news | 09/21/05 | Shawn Rider
Marc Ecko\'s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure has already been drawing fire for encouraging graffiti. We\'re sure parents and squares everywhere will rise up in protest of this latest affront on the sterile safety environment they try to build around the youth. But as for us, we\'re going to be practicing our can control and stealth action for when this bad boy hits stores in November.

Revolution and the Next Generation of Gaming, or Popular Belief and the Gaming Industry
editorial | 09/20/05 | Chris Martin
Never a crew to let a single viewpoint dominate (we\'re still cleaning up the offices from the Great Console Wars of 01/02), our man Chris Martin has stepped up to the metaphorical typewriter. Those of you who find the Nintendo Revolution a bit too syrupy-sweet and dreamily perfect most likely share some of Chris\' concerns.

Why Nintendo Gets It, or Why Sony Should Start Trying
editorial | 09/17/05 | Shawn Rider
With the announcement of the Revolution controller, Nintendo has proven that, at least some of the time, they really \"get\" it. Get what? Gaming. In a next-gen lineup that has been, frankly, a total snooze-fest, the Revolution has finally shown us a sliver of light, which we think will broaden into a bright new direction for game design to explore. While Sony and Microsoft are content to release platform upgrades, it looks like Nintendo is the only one attempting to move gaming to a new generation.

Did Any Revolution Mock-ups Get It Right?
game: Nintendo Revolution
editorial | 09/16/05 | Aaron Stanton
Nintendo has pulled the Revolution controller from its magic hat, and the gaming community is now reeling in surprise. Initial responses around GamesFirst have ranged from, \"Wow,\" to, \"That\'s the ugliest thing I\'ve ever seen.\" How well the controller works depends on the quality of games Nintendo and third party developers can produce. Another question, though: After months of fan mock-ups and fake Revolution photos, did any of them get it right? Did anyone get even close? Turns out one or two did.

Namco Opens Tales of Legendia Website
game: Tales of Legendia
news | 09/15/05 | Aaron Stanton
Namco has cut the ribbon on the teaser website for Tales of Legendia, the latest in the popular Tales series of RPGs. The Tales games have become renowned over the years for their stylized cartoon graphics, their young, well-developed characters, and the games\' real-time battle system. The website has basic information on the story, the characters, and the environments that you can expect to be adventuring through when the game releases come 2006. The last time we saw the Tales series, it was on the Nintendo GameCube in Tales of Symphonia, one of the best RPGs to ever appear on the system. Or on any system. Tales of Legendia will be released in winter of 2006 for the PS2.

Sony Brings Development Studios Under One Name
news | 09/14/05 | Aaron Stanton
Sony Computer Entertainment has unified their numerous game development studios under the name Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. The new title helps Sony provide a more unified front in an industry that\'s becoming increasingly global. Of course, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios is extremely long, and abbreviates into SCEWS. Would you want to be called SCEWS?

Rainbow Six: Lockdown Review
game: Rainbow Six: Lockdown
review | 09/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
Rainbow Six is a game franchise that we really cherish here at GamesFirst, so when Lockdown came out with horrible flaws we couldn\'t help but feel disappointed. Truth is, the game\'s entire AI system is just plain stupid. We didn\'t think you\'d believe us if we just showed you pictures and wrote about being able to withstand 7.5 minutes of weapon fire, so we\'ve included video clips of our character being all immortal and impervious to bullets. Funny thing; you actually die more if you take cover. Check it out.

Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance
game: Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance
review | 09/13/05 | Laurie Taylor
Combining a little bit GTA with a little bit Def Jam Vendetta, and a whole frothy can of whoop@$$, Capcom\'s Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance proves that even a somewhat flawed game can pack in a lot of fun. That is, if you can make it through the load screens. Get your b\'mup on with Laurie\'s review.

What the Truck? Another Big Mutha Truckers?
game: Big Mutha Truckers 2
review | 09/12/05 | Steffan Del Piano
UFOs. Biker gangs. Hobos. Big Rigs. Sonic the Hedgehog. Okay, maybe not Sonic but Big Mutha Truckers 2 has got lots of crazy characters. But is it worth making a (truck)stop at your local game store? Or is this one situation where you\'re better off to just Keep on Truckin\' right along.

New Screens for X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse on PSP
game: X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse
news | 09/10/05 | Shawn Rider
Due in October, Vicarious Visions\' PSP version of X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse looks to be a game well worth watching. The PSP has been in a serious drought lately, with lackluster titles and very few of them. It\'s a Nintendo-like wasteland of early development for PSP owners. But X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse could be a breakout hit this Fall, especially of it features a robust (and infrastructure) WiFi mode.

GF! Weekly Wrap-Up
podcast | 09/10/05 | Val Townsend
This week\'s Weekly Wrap-Up Podcast is a bit late. Why? Well, our beloved Val Townsend, the Atomic Goddess, decided to commandeer a semi-truck, fill it up with generous donations of food, water, and essential items from the fine people of Western New York, and drove it down to Jackson, Mississippi, all on behalf of her radio station, 103.3 WEDG. To top it off, after three days of marathon truck-driving, Val still managed to pull off the Podcast before Midnight tonight. All we can do is look dumb and nod our heads in agreement over how much Val totally freaking ROCKS.
