Big Bass Fishing Review
game: Big Bass Fishing
review | 06/28/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
How do you make a bargain priced fishing game for PSone stand out above the rest? If you are Big Bass Fishing you add a sexy angler into the mix. Her saucy allusions and provocative double entendres are fun for a bit, but then you\'re left playing the game, and it just falls short. Click here to read all about it.

Dark Planet: Battle for Natrolis Review
game: Dark Planet: Battle for Natrolis
review | 06/28/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
It\'s one of the oldest stories we know: Multiple groups of settlers fight amongst themselves to control a newly discovered world, empty except for the natives. Nope, this isn\'t a pre-July 4 history lesson, it\'s the plot of Dark Planet: Battle for Natrolis. This bargain-priced strategy game brings some interesting features to the table, but overall it ends up falling a bit flat. Click here for more.

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix Review
game: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix
review | 06/28/02 | Rick Fehrenbacher
Activision follows up their cult hit with a sequel that mostly gives the fans more of the same. Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix features nicer graphics and a more robust GHOUL system (which allows you to take out your enemies piece by piece), but the gameplay remains oriented around shooting, shooting, and shooting more. LOTR: The Two Towers Preview (PS2, GBA)
game: LOTR: The Two Towers
preview | 06/11/02 | Monica Hafer
The Lord of the Rings franchise has been fractured -- games are coming out from both Sierra and EA. EA has the movie license, and that will make all the difference. So far The Two Towers looks amazing, what with the hordes of orcs to cut down and the incredible interplay of film footage and game graphics. Click here to be amazed.

Editorial: What Women Want (From Gaming)
editorial | 06/04/02 | Monica Hafer
We saw the guys from WomenGamers.com at E3. Just the guys. We had two women with us on GF! staff, Sarah and Monica, and each year we\'ve noticed more and more women at the show who aren\'t there to sucker guys who haven\'t seen the sun since 1994 to take their photo. But anyone with a sister or mom knows that women dig videogames. Still, women are not quite fully integrated into the gaming world, and Monica has some thoughts about that in her editorial, What Women Want (From Gaming). You really need to read it. Click here.

Every day I get a ton of email asking me which console system to purchase. My stock response is \"All of them,\" but that isn\'t satisfying for most folks. So in the interest of public service, here\'s my answer to you question: Which Console Should I Buy?

Back to the Front: The Console Wars Go Online
Articles Archive | 05/29/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
One of the ubiquitous topics of E3 this year was online gaming. Specifically, online gaming for consoles was in the air and not since Sega announced SegaNet has there been more interest in the topic. Of course, SegaNet taught us quite a few things “ most importantly that it is possible and enjoyable to play console titles online. It also taught us that a lot can be done with a 56.6 Kb connection and that it is essential to allow groups of local players to take on groups of remote players. SegaNet gave us so much, and many of us Dreamcast fanboys felt more than a twinge of sadness at the death of the system, which didn't wither into old age, but was rather sacrificed for the greater good of the parent company. I can picture the Dreamcast kneeling before a row of Sega execs, knife poised at his chest, "I am sorry I have failed to bring Sega out of the pit it had dug well before I was conceived. Forgiveness, please?"

WildTangent: Divergent Business Model for Online Gaming and Distribution
Articles Archive | 05/28/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
Although they sounded intriguing, it wasn't the martinis and massages that lured me into the WildTangent room at E3. As a member of the media, the invites for drinks were as free flowing as T-shirts and temporary tattoos for the normal E3 attendee. Yet, as I was winding my way through the mayhem that is E3, I was surprised to see a rather large woman in a purple shirt handing out gamedisks. With quasi-anorexic booth babes the norm in this venue, I was surprised to note that all of the WildTangent women (as that's who they were) were larger-than-life and exceptionally friendly. I wondered, "Who would be so bold as to flaut tradition and hire large, fully clothed women to entice players to check out a booth?" The answer turned out to be a company that has used just such divergent thinking in all areas of their marketing: WildTangent.
