Xbox 360 to Repel Hackers With Deadly Laser Beams
game: Xbox 360
news | 09/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
A member of the Xbox 360 development team has told BBC that Microsoft\'s next generation game system will be difficult to hack. We can only speculate about what that means. It also brings to mind a few other interesting attempts by companies in the past to prevent hacking, such as Nintendo\'s brilliant move to make the GameCube so unpopular that no one would care. We here at GamesFirst have figured out a fool proof hacking system, though, that works pretty much every time.

Bethesda Releases Screenshots of Oblivion's Level Editor
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 09/12/05 | Aaron Stanton
While some of us can\'t wait to get our hands on the official release of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, others can\'t wait to get their hands on the map and quest maker. The PC version of the title will ship with a level editor that allows fans of the series to create their own stories and levels independent of the original storyline, just as Elder Scrolls III did. Bethesda and 2K Games have released screenshots of the upcoming editor, and the shots should be of interest to gamers with a creative streak and a desire to make worlds instead of just play in them.

twoplayer comic: How to Advertise to Women
comic | 09/11/05 | Aaron Stanton
On September 10th, 2005 the Women in Games International Conference took place in Redmond, Washington at the Microsoft Campus. It was both interesting and informative, and it\'s a pity that there are not more conferences like it; this is a step in the right direction for diversity in the game industry. GamesFirst will have more coverage of the conference later on, but in the mean time we couldn\'t help but include a comic reference. Check out this week\'s twoplayer comic, How to Advertise to Women. Too many advertisers seem to take this comic to heart.

twoplayer game comics are published every Sunday at http://comics.gamesfirst.com.

Team Xbox Decodes OrigenXbox360.com?
news | 09/10/05 | Shawn Rider
It looks like Team Xbox figured out the meaning of OrigenXbox360.com. By zooming in on the tree branch near the hole, they revealed a latin phrase, and with the help of a clever reader, they have formed a pretty strong argument that the OrigenXbox360.com site is advertising the September 27 announcement of HALO 3, which has been long-rumored to coincide with the release of the PlayStation 3. Oh, and there\'s another bunny and some more apples on the tree.

Bungie Asks Halo Fans to Fight the Flood
game: Halo 2
news | 09/04/05 | Shawn Rider
Bungie has made a clever t-shirt that it is selling to help out victims of Hurricane Katrina. It\'s cool because not only are they donating $15 for every $20 shirt sold directly and immediately to the American Red Cross, but the shirt is actually a clever Halo \"flood\" joke. And it\'s tasteful. Bravo Bungie. Click view the shirt in the Bungie store.

Modding Community Gets Head Start on Xbox 360
news | 08/31/05 | Aaron Stanton
Probably the people most passionate about whether or not the Xbox 360 has a hard drive are system modders, who can possibly use the hard drive for everything from stealing games (bad) to running homebrew software (goodish). Now, the makers of the SmartXX mod chip for the Xbox have gotten hold of a number of Xbox 360 development kits. They\'ve opened the system and photographed the insides, which is a pretty good indication that the modding community is already at work on modding the next generation game consoles.

Bethesda Comments Suggest 360 Hard Drive has Little Effect on Gameplay
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 08/27/05 | Aaron Stanton
Bethesda confirmed that the widely anticipated Xbox 360 title Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will run with or without a hard drive. But what does that mean? Is the $100 hard drive so unimportant that it can be pushed to the side at a whim? We asked Bethesda if they could clarify exactly what difference a hard drive makes in how Oblivion plays. The answer, depending on how you read it, can be either encouraging, or suggest that the role of the hard drive has been pushed to a level of minor importance. Read Bethesda\'s response, and decide for yourself.

Fable: The Lost Chapters Preview
game: Fable: The Lost Chapters
preview | 08/25/05 | Tristan Mayshark
When Fable was originally announced on the PC, it was going to be one of the greatest, most complicated RPGs ever created. That was the theory, at least. When the final product finally appeared on the Xbox, it had changed systems, lost features, and been forced to admit that it was not as sophisticated or as massive as had originally been planned. Still, the title found success where it counted: it was fun. Now, Fable is returning to the system on which it started, showing up on the PC as Fable: The Lost Chapters. We\'re here to help keep you briefed on what to expect from this wayward child.

OrigenXbox360.com - Another MS Viral Marketing Site
news | 08/24/05 | Shawn Rider
In a move that looks very similar to the I Love Bees campaign, Microsoft has registered another mysterious site, Origen360.com. This looks a heck of a lot like the early OurColony site, and Microsoft has a long history of using alt-reality gaming to sell us stuff.
