How to Get Your Significant Other to Love Gaming
Articles Archive | 10/20/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
It is the plague of gamers everywhere”how do you get the one you love to love your gaming habit? The most obvious and commonly attempted ploy is trying to get your significant other to develop his or her own habit. But sometimes this is a more difficult prospect than one might expect. I have heard many of my male counterparts bemoan the fact that his wife or girlfriend just doesn't understand his need to spend hours on the console or computer and that it is jeopardizing both of the loves of his life. As I am a firm believer in the "love me, love my obsessions" philosophy, I decided put my mind to work figuring out how to lure your partner into the gaming fold. After much thought, I finally came up with a strategy that I think will work for almost anyone. So here goes?my best advice for winning over your one and only.

Greek Geeks Fight Gaming Ban
editorial | 09/05/02 | Shawn Rider
In a horribly misguided stab at limiting gambling in public places, the Greek Government has created a ban on all videogames. That\'s right: Playing games on your PC, Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance (especially in public) is illegal in Greece. The first couple of internet cafe owners have been arrested already for allowing gaming in their public establishments, and things have gotten more rotten than 4:00 AM at a LAN bash over there. Interview: Richard Garriott (aka Lord British)
interview | 07/18/02 | Aaron Stanton
Aaron Stanton was lucky enough to get some quality time with one of the legendary figures of gaming. Known for his eccentric qualities, including adventure vacations and his alter ego Lord British, as much as for his foundational role in creating Ultima Online and continuing participation in MMO projects like Lineage, City of Heroes, and Tabla Rasa (working title), Richard Garriott is THE man right about now. With MMORPGs at an all-time popularity high, and many new titles entering the fray, Garriott was kind enough to chat about his projects, game design, why consoles won\'t succeed online, and much more. EDITORIAL - What Women Want (From Gaming)
Articles Archive | 07/04/02 | GF! Back Catalogue 10/2004 => 1995
During the Nintendo press conference at E3, my mind began to wander somewhere that I'm sure they never intended; I began to think about? my mother. It all started during a promotional commercial for their new title, Animal Crossing, in which we see several seconds of humorous footage where a crazed-looking mother has stolen her child's GBA and is sitting at the kitchen table playing while her child attempts to wrest it from her grasp. I couldn't help but recall the stolen hours that my mother had spent on games such as Space Invaders and Legend of Zelda, Tomb Raider and Riven. These were seemingly decadent hours that I'm sure my father thought could have been spent more productively. But as I remember, her gaming was no less earnest than that of her offspring, and I believe she had no less (dare I say it?) fun.

Editorial: What Women Want (From Gaming)
editorial | 06/04/02 | Monica Hafer
We saw the guys from WomenGamers.com at E3. Just the guys. We had two women with us on GF! staff, Sarah and Monica, and each year we\'ve noticed more and more women at the show who aren\'t there to sucker guys who haven\'t seen the sun since 1994 to take their photo. But anyone with a sister or mom knows that women dig videogames. Still, women are not quite fully integrated into the gaming world, and Monica has some thoughts about that in her editorial, What Women Want (From Gaming). You really need to read it. Click here.

City of Heroes Preview (PC)
game: City of Heroes
preview | 05/30/02 | Aaron Stanton
Developed under the tutelage of online gaming giant Richard Garriot, NCSoft\'s latest endeavour, City of Heroes, is a MMORPG with a twist. Rather than the typical fantasy setting, you get to create your own superhero and vanquish evil. Tons of customization options and a cool gameplay setup should make this a hit. Click here.
