1UP Takes a Look at Gaming Webcomics: Forgets the TP
news | 11/08/05 | Shawn Rider
1UP.com has a good history of web comics dedicated to videogames. It walks through all the major players, from current videogame comic and freedom-fighting Juggernaut, Penny Arcade, to foundational titles like PvP and 8-Bit Theater. These mighty three have spun off entire genres in a fledgling industry, and many have made their rise side by side with the indy gaming website scene. Of course, there\'s no mention of Twoplayer, which has been recognized by sites like Joystiq as not totally sucking. Nevertheless, it\'s a good read and if any of the comics discussed are not on your webcomic radar, then you are really missing out. Twoplayer Comic: My Eyes! Arrrrrgh...
game: Doom 3
comic | 11/07/05 | Aaron Stanton
The Doom movie managed to hit #1 in the box office right after its release. Since then, competition from other titles have forced it down the chart, with one magazine reporting a 120% drop less than a week after it\'s release. Don\'t ask me how that\'s possible, except that - if the charts wrap-around to the top of the screen like many old NES games - that would put them way up there at the top. Possibly one of the greatest money makers of all time. Who knows? Take a look at this week\'s twoplayer comic (mics.gamesfirst.com/index.php?thisComic=35\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">Part I and mics.gamesfirst.com/index.php?thisComic=36\"" onClick="window.open( this.href, '_self' ); return false;" title="">Part II) to see which Doom-isms made a safe transition from the game to the movie.

Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes Review
game: Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes
review | 11/04/05 | Jeremy Kauffman
The second in Phantagram\'s action RTS series for the Xbox, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes delivers on strategy and button-mashing action, but comes up short in story. Jeremy took KUF: Heroes out for a walk, and decides that in spite of the many faults, Heroes might just be worth a look for the online play, which provides RTS battle mayhem for up to six players via Xbox Live.

One of the titles we\'re most excited about this Fall is Peter Jackson\'s King Kong, the game based on the movie. Now, Ubisoft sends word that they will host public preview events for the game in New York City and Los Angeles, the week before the game hits stores for pretty much every platform on the planet. The preview events will be major affairs, featuring a full mock-up of Skull Island and 11 kiosks where gamers can experience King Kong, the game, in full big-screen, HD glory on Xbox 360. No PlayStation LIVE for PS3
game: Playstation 3
news | 11/03/05 | George Holomshek
Sony recently confirmed to Playstation Magazine that they will utilize a non-centralized system for online multiplayer on the PS3, sticking with their departure from Microsoft\'s Xbox Live or Nintendo\'s Wi-Fi Connection services. Sticking with an online gaming strategy similar to how the PS2 currently handles online gaming means that game publishers have much greater flexibility with their online content. It also means that gamers will need different accounts for each game they play online, and also makes it more difficult for developers to insure an even playing ground in online multiplayer.

Twoplayer Comic: Modest Proposal Gone Wrong
game: PSP
comic | 10/24/05 | Aaron Stanton
Jack Thompson\'s letter offering to donate $10,000 may have been satirical, but not nearly satirical enough. A number of games designed to meet his criteria have sprung up across the Internet, evidently eager to top the lawyer\'s demand. It\'s a good thing that Jonathan Swift\'s proposal, the one which Thompson compares his own letter to, was a bit more obvious. Crazy things could have happened. Xbox 360 Hits the Open, Hangs Out at Wal-Mart
game: Xbox 360
news | 10/20/05 | Aaron Stanton
Don\'t be surprised if there\'s a line in the electronics section the next time you visit your local Wal-Mart. The retail chain has been scoring some street points by being the first retail company to demo Microsoft\'s Xbox 360, hands-on and playable by the customer. Apparently, playable Xbox 360 demo units have been springing up across the United States. A quick call to our local Wal-Mart confirmed that an Xbox 360 was already sitting, pristine and nice, behind a glass display and a line of people all hurting their necks looking up at the screen. \"We set ours up yesterday,\" was the comment we got from the clerk when we called, \"and it\'s beautiful.\"

Joystiq Puts Together Xbox 360s Content Delivery Plans
news | 10/14/05 | Shawn Rider
In a great analysis of Microsoft\'s latest announcements about Xbox Live Arcade for Xbox 360, Joystiq\'s Vladimir Cole details how Xbox Live Arcade is a growing threat to the traditional retail chain. And that\'s not necessarily a bad thing for game publishers: \"Sure, the games on offer right now are non-threatening casual games, but it's only a matter of time until gamers are downloading entire triple-A titles and not just demos of them. With more and more retailers moving towards the sale of used games, first- and third-party publishers are going to push the direct-to-consumer channel even harder.\" Check out the full story on Joystiq here.

Rumors Suggest Oblivion Delayed, Not a Launch Day Title
game: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
news | 10/13/05 | Aaron Stanton
Rumors on the Internet have 2K Games announcing that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will miss the Xbox 360 launch day by two weeks, giving the much anticipated title a new release date of December 5th, 2005. How reliable this information is remains to be seen; while a number of high profile game sites have reported Oblivion\'s delay, IGN Insider is now reporting that Bethesda denies any such thing. Questions about Oblivion\'s role in the Xbox 360 launch have been floating about the Internet since it failed to make Microsoft\'s previous list of confirmed same-day launch titles. Speculation that it could be released during the system\'s launch window instead, within a month or so of the actual system, is still very much valid.

Trace Memory Review
game: Trace Memory
review | 10/12/05 | Laurie Taylor
Trace Memory for the Nintendo DS is a bold take on what an adventure game can be, and it provides a whole new take on the concept of \"all killer, no filler.\" Trace Memory clocks in at a very brief five or six hours, which is definitely not the norm in gaming these days, but those are some of the most enjoyable five or six hours we\'ve seen in an adventure game. Our resident academic gamer, Laurie Taylor, takes a look at this unique title.
