GT Legends Review
game: GT Legends
review | 03/17/06 | Chris Martin
GT Legends takes the gameplay essentials of GTR and throws them into the golden era of racing: the 1960\'s and 70\'s. With a steep learning curve and a perplexing lack of information about how to race (even in the manual), GT Legends still offers a great simulation-style gaming experience for anyone willing to push through the difficulties at the starting line. If you don\'t mind figuring out for yourself when you have to stop for a pit, or that receiving a False Start warning means you have to pit after the first lap in order to avoid disqualification, then GT Legends will be worth your time.

Neuros Mpeg-4 Video Recorder 2: Free Your Media
game: Neuros Mpeg-4 Video Recorder 2
review | 03/13/06 | Shawn Rider
Neuros Technology has released a five ounce beauty called the Neuros Mpeg-4 Video Recorder 2. This little device is like a VCR for your memory cards: You can record any video input to Mpeg-4 format on a Compact Flash card or a Sony Memory Stick. This makes the Neuros Video Recorder 2 a very appealing device for any media-savvy PSP gamers, iPod Video owners, and anyone else with a media capable PDA. And the best part is that the Neuros player allows you to get the most from your media, enabling you to easily create non-DRM, mobile, versions of your DVDs and broadcast television shows. GF! Mailbag
editorial | 03/11/06 | Matt James
We felt so bad for Matt having to lug that big mailbag all the way up to the GF! Offices that we moved his desk into the basement where the mail drops directly. Then we forgot about him. As it turns out, Matt\'s been down there the whole time, trapped under a crate of old Atari Age magazines and sandwiched between a box of old toys and a broken Wizard of Wor machine. Aaron found Matt when he went down to fetch a couple old floppy disks we needed to shimmy up an uneven leg on our new company massage table. It was too late for Matt, but he was clutching this latest edition of the GF! Mailbag in one hand, and had used Legos to spell out something about how Jeremy still can\'t beat his Gamerscore. Click here for what may very well be Matt\'s last Mailbag ever (unless we\'re totally lying to you, which is also possible).

State of Emergency 2 Review
game: State of Emergency 2
review | 03/08/06 | Jeremy Kauffman
Back in the early day of the PS2, Rockstar followed up their blockbuster GTA3 with State of Emergency, a game widely rumored to be based on the WTO riots in Seattle that put you in the middle of giant marauding crowds bent on destroying the man. SOE featured an innovative game engine that allowed for previously unheard of numbers of characters on-screen as well as a locational damage/weapon engine that allowed you to rip off body parts and use them to beat down new victims. Now, SouthPeak Interactive and DC Studios have brought us the next chapter in the State of Emergency series: State of Emergency 2. Was it worth the wait? Check out Jeremy\'s review to find out.

What Xbox Live Needs Is...
game: Xbox Live
editorial | 03/05/06 | Shawn Rider
Xbox Live is an excellent gaming service, and by all accounts the best thing going for ease of use and consistent reliability. It\'s the only online game in town so far when it comes to the home console, too. But that is about to change: With Nintendo and Sony both rolling out competing online gaming services this year, Xbox Live needs to be at the top of its game. So far it has been doing well, but we thought we\'d help out by offering up a few ideas we have for improving the Xbox Live service. Check out Shawn\'s editorial here.

Meridian 4 is bringing the European indy title Shadowgrounds to the US, and it\'s just the thing for folks looking for that classic feeling mixed with a little contemporary mayhem. Shadowgrounds is budget-priced and independently developed, but this isn\'t just another top-down shooter, and there\'s nothing \"low-tech\" about it. Featuring amazing lighting effects, hoards of enemies bent on carnage, and just perfect audio, Shadowgrounds is a creepy, tense, immersive experience. Check in with George\'s preview for more.

Acclaim is Back!
game: BOTS
news | 03/02/06 | Shawn Rider
Game publisher Acclaim has risen from the ashes and is making a comeback. So far the publisher has two titles in the works: BOTS and 9 Dragons. BOTS is, obviously, a robot-based game which allows players to customize their metal men to their liking, purchasing new items online. These upgrades, which number in the hundreds, help make the BOTS undefeatable machines of mayhem as players compete with each other in the arena. This is the first from the company, which plans for many more. Oh, and did we mention that this is a totally FREE online game? Yep. PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient Review
game: PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient
review | 03/01/06 | Shawn Rider
An early release in the coming tide of brain training titles due to hit the US in the next year, PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient is a game that doubles as an intelligence test. Developed in collaboration with a real-life Professor of Psychology from Kyoto University, PQ ranks your smarts based on the \"modular theory of intelligence.\" Is it as quirky and nerdy as it sounds? Or is it true that taking a test can never be a good time? Check the full review here.

Astro Boy: Two Legends Converge
game: Astro Boy
review | 02/25/06 | RJ Brooks
Astro Boy has been praised by reviewers since its release in 2003. Another gem from Treasure, Astro Boy proves there is still some enjoyment to find in the 2D action gaming arena. A shooter/platformer in the vein of Gunstar Heroes, Astro Boy brings Osamu Tezuka\'s world reknowned character to life on the Game Boy Advance. We rarely get Astro Boy releases in the US, which is another testament to just how good this game is. Check out the conclusion to Robert\'s six-part retrospective here. Fittingly, Robert looks at how the legendary Treasure and the legendary Tezuka combine to create a GBA title that should be in every gamer\'s library.

With such fan classics as Gunstar Heroes and Astro Boy in their library, Treasure\'s games have created a rabid fanbase of twitch gamers and import junkies. Our man, Robert Brooks, has a retrospective of Treasure\'s games along with five classic retro reviews, each going live over the next week. Check it out here.

game: Sonic Blast
review | 02/19/06 | Tristan Mayshark
Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles have come to us in the form of a brightly colored controller that connects to your TV and offers 15 different kinds of pain and suffering to users. Sonic Blast is a far cry from the quality and breadth we\'ve come to expect in our plug-and-play TV games. For now, stick with the products that look like a real Genesis controller, and limit your experience with Sonic Blast to reading our review.
