After 10 years of Japanese market love and American cult phenomenon, Atlus finally shows the US some love with a timely North American release of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, out today for PS2. Sony has borrowed another good idea and brings forth a quirky Japanese game that is obviously meant to target the Katamari crowd. Yet, the Katamari crowd is not one to be easily swayed by imitators. So how does Loco Roco fare? Rather well, arigato gozaimus. Funky, lovable graphics, super happy fun-time music, and quirky gameplay that\'s part Super Monkey Ball and part Super Mario Bros. combine to create one of the best games we\'ve ever played, especially on our PSPs.

The PS3\'s spendy price tag already has many gamers up in arms and puts the system completely outside the range of most casual spenders. With the PS3 clocking in at hundreds of dollars above the entry price of their competition, what could they possibly do to make their system even more inaccessible? How about games selling for between $76 and $84 each? A Japanese report suggests that they\'ll be doing just that. Reliable? Who knows, but Sony\'s recent history suggests that they\'re prepared to believe that gamers will accept any price they decide to offer, so who knows?

1Up.com editor Luke Smith recently called Square Enix to task on a press embargo they attempted to impose for the Japanese release of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. The embargo laid out guidelines about what the press could and couldn\'t say regarding the storyline of the already released Valkyrie Profile 2, including which characters and locations were safe to talk about. Of course, you can\'t embargo publicly available information, and Smith called them on it, opening Enix to a public lashing in the forums. Here\'s to 1Up\'s editors for having the guts to talk about it, and here\'s a sympathetic shake of the head to Square Enix PR. They\'ve got to be slapping themselves on the head right now.

Enchanted Arms is one of the few Japanese-developed games coming to American Xbox 360s this year. Already out in the JP, we know it\'s a solid RPG with traditional elements and sparkly graphics. But can it offer up that something special that Xbox owners crave? Our man, Matt James, took on the great golems of Enchanted Arms, and he did fare well (although not so well at getting a chuckle out of those stoic From Software reps). Nintendo has steadily been releasing details about upcoming products and services that have us wondering if Big N could be the big success story of 2006. The latest news comes from a Japanese press conference in which Nintendo announced a partnership with Opera to bring a web browser to Japanese versions of the Nintendo DS. In addition to the new Internet feature, the DS will also receive broadcast TV capabilities in Japan. Of course, we\'re wondering: When will these features come to the US? In a shocking turn of events (and just plain weird event in general), news comes to us through several sources of a Nintendo DS Trojan. The malicious program is known as either \"hentai loader\", \"r0mloader.zip\", or \"taihen.zip\", and is designed to \'brick\' your Nintendo DS. The program promises to load either pirated game roms or hentai (a Japanese term for pornographic comics and cartoons) on your DS when loaded using a flash rom device, which makes it possible to run homebrew applications and games on the Nintendo DS.

Long awaited by gamers everywhere, the two big boys of the console market have locked horns. Sony announced earlier this week that the PS2 price would drop from $299 to $199. Microsoft had planned on surprising us all at E3 with a price drop for the Xbox, but in light of Sony\'s news chose to make the change immediately, dropping the price of the Xbox from $299 to $199. Working Designs is a small development/publishing house that specilizes in finding some of the best Japanese titles available and giving us stateside gamers a chance to get in on the action. They've been delivering high quality games since the Turbografix 16 and have developed a signature style of addictive gameplay and superb writing. Most recently they've given us Lunar and Vanguard Bandits, two of my favorite RPGs on the PlayStation. Lunar 2: Eternal Blue will probably (hopefully) make its way into your PlayStation pretty soon, and Working Desings has two titles, Silpheed and Gungriffon Blaze, lined up for the Playstation 2 launch in October. I had a chance to ask Victor Ireland, President of Working Desings, some questions and get the skinny on their new titles, their creative approach, and those ever-so-sweet RPG translations.
